2008 Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Katie Orzel (Maryville (Mo.))
Maryville University's Katie Orzel, a senior from St. Charles, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 20-26.

Orzel, a 5-2 midfielder, had five goals, including one game-winning goal, and one assist for a total of 11 points in three games played last week. She recorded a career-high seven points and a career-high three goals in an 8-1 victory versus Westminster College. Orzel scored the game-winning goal 0:31 into the game versus Blackburn College, marking the fastest goal scored on the year for the Saints. She also added the lone goal in a 4-1 loss at No. 10 Rhodes College.

 

Oct 13-19
Elizabeth Post (Principia)
Principia College's Elizabeth Post, a junior from Malibu, Calif., has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 13-19.

Post, a 5-5 midfielder, had two goals and two assists for a total of six points in one game played last week. Post, who is not a starter for the Panthers, helped her squad remain undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 victory over Eureka College. She entered the game after an injury to a teammate and dominated by scoring the two goals and tallying two assists.

Carey Erwin (Principia)
Principia College's Carey Erwin, a junior from Dallas, Texas (Principia Upper), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 6-12.

Erwin, a 5-8 midfielder/forward, had two goals, including one game-winning goal, and one assist for a total of five points in two games played last week. She scored the lone goal for the Panthers in their first loss of the season, a 3-1 decision at nationally ranked No. 18 Washington University-St. Louis. Erwin also scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Principia's 5-0 shutout on the road at Westminster College.

KT Zapushek (Eureka)
Eureka College's KT Zapushek, a junior from Metamora, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 29-October 5. This is the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Zapushek, a 5-5 midfielder, had two goals, both game-winners, and one assist for a total of five points in two games played last week. She scored one of her goals in the Red Devils game versus MacMurray, breaking a 2-2 tie with the game-winning goal in the 76th minute. Zapushek assisted on the first goal of the game versus Robert Morris College-Springfield and then later broke a 1-1 tie with the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 74th minute.

KT Zapushek (Eureka)
Eureka College's KT Zapushek, a junior from Metamora, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 22-28.

Zapushek, a 5-5 midfielder, had four goals, including two game-winning goals, and added one assist for a total of nine points in two games played last week. She scored her second career hat trick and first this season just 22:13 into the Red Devils game versus Blackburn. She scored her first goal at 0:28 and second at 11:46, while also adding one assist in the 5-2 victory. Zapushek then led her team to a 5-2 win over Robert Morris College-Lake County with the game-winning goal.

 

Sep 15-21
Jackie Sievert (Greenville)
Greenville College's Jackie Sievert, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Francis Howell North), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 15-21.

Sievert, a 5-7 midfielder, had five goals, including two game-winning goals and four assists for a total of 14 points in three games played last week. She had three goals and one assist in a 5-2 victory versus Eureka College. She then added two goals and one assist in a 6-2 win over Illinois College. Sievert ended the week with two assists in Greenville's 4-1 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.).

 

Sep 8-14
Alicia Girbes-Pierce (Principia)
Principia College's Alicia Girbes-Pierce, a freshman from San Diego, Calif. (Mira Mesa), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 8-14. This is the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Girbes-Pierce, a 5-5 forward, had four goals, two game-winning goals and two assists in two games played last week. She had the first two goals of the game and assisted on another in a 4-0 victory versus Knox College. She then had two goals and one assist in a 6-0 win over MacMurray college, which extended Principia's unbeaten streak to seven games.

Christy Capkovic (Webster)
Webster University's Christy Capkovic, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Mehlville), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 1-7.

Capkovic, a 5-7 forward, had four goals, one game-winning goal and one assist in two games played last week. She scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-0 victory versus North Central University (Ill.). Capkovic then added two goals and an assist in an 11-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College.

 

Aug 29-31
Alicia Girbes-Pierce (Principia)
Principia College's Alicia Girbes-Pierce, a freshman from San Diego, Calif. (Mira Mesa), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of August 29-31.

Girbes-Pierce, a 5-5 forward, scored the game-winning goals in both Panther victories this past weekend. She had one goal in a 3-0 victory versus Robert Morris College-Springfield and two goals in a 3-0 win over Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.
