Four Women's Soccer Players Named All-Central Region

ST. LOUIS - Four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) women's soccer players have been named to the 2009 NSCAA All-Central Region team. Principia College's Lauren Wienecke and Alicia Girbes-Pierce, and Webster University's Christy Capkovic were all named Second Team, while Webster's Jenna Steiner was named Third Team.

 

Wienecke, a sophomore defender from Tulsa, Okla., was a First Team All-SLIAC honoree. She helped the Panthers defense post nine shutouts this season, while Principia had a 14-3-2 overall record and a perfect 8-0-0 record in regular season SLIAC play.

 

Girbes-Pierce, a sophomore forward from San Diego, Calif., was named the SLIAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, while also earning First Team All-SLIAC honors. She ranked third in the conference in both Points per Game (3.06) and Goals per Game (1.18), while ranking second in Assists per Game (0.71). She finished the season with 20 goals and 12 assists for a total of 52 points in 17 games played.

 

Capkovic, a junior forward from St. Louis, Mo., was also a First Team All-SLIAC selection in 2009. She led the SLIAC in Shots (135), Shots per Game (6.75), Points (78), Points per Game (3.90), Goals (33) and Goals per Game (1.65). Her 3.90 Points per Game and 1.65 Goals per Game also ranked first in the nation among NCAA Division III.

 

Steiner, a senior midfielder from Jefferson City, Mo., was a First Team All-SLIAC honoree and was named the SLIAC Tournament MVP. She was ranked in the top 10 in the conference in several categories and finished the season with two goals and 11 assists for a total of 15 points in 18 games played.
