Webster's Capkovic Earns Academic All-America Honors

ST. LOUIS - Webster University senior, Christy Capkovic, can add a new honor to her impressive resume, compiled over four record-breaking seasons with the Webster University women's soccer team, Academic All-American. Capkovic was voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Soccer 3rd Team for 2010, as a forward.

Capkovic had 18 goals and nine assists this fall for the Gorloks, while maintaining a cumulative 3.5 grade point average. Capkovic finished her career as the 15th highest point leader (223) in NCAA III history, as well as the 25th all-time high goal scorer (88). She is tied for third for most goals (6) scored in a single NCAA III game. She was an ESPN The Magazine 2nd Team Academic All-District selection in 2009, and an National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2009 2nd Team All-Region selection as well. Capkovic was named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) First Team All-Conference for four consecutive years.

Capkovic holds the Webster University single season records for goals (33) and points (78), and is the career leader in goals (88), assists (47), and points (223). In addition, she led the NCAA Division III nationally in points per game (3.9), goals (33), and goals per game (1.65) in 2009. Capkovic becomes just the fifth women's soccer player in SLIAC history to be named an Academic All-American.

She was one of 24 players, nationally, eligible for voting to 12 Academic All-American forward positions. Academic All-American voting weighs athletic accomplishments with heavy consideration on the athlete's academic merits. A committee of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) votes for the All-American teams. Capkovic had become a finalist for the award by being voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1st team last month.
