Webster Women's Soccer Coach Eclipses 200 Career Victories

ST. LOUIS - Head Coach Luigi Scire gained his 200th career victory as the Webster University women's soccer team downed Monmouth College (IL), 3-0, on September 9 at the Soccer Park. Scire, the only coach the Gorloks have had in their 14-year history, joins the exclusive club with the win.

Scire submitted the proposal to institute women's soccer at Webster in 1999, and was appointed head coach. Scire's teams jumped out of the starting game, going 15-4-1 in their inaugural year and following it up with 17-2-2 and 18-1-1, seasons, going 50-7-1 in the span. His career record in now 200-59-11and he holds the 15th highest all-time win pct. (.761) in NCAA III women's history, and the 26th highest all-time for all NCAA women's divisions.

The Gorloks left little doubt after the opening kickoff the team would leave Scire in suspense as to when his 200th win would come, scoring six minutes into the contest on a Lauren Pratt (FR, Incarnate Word Academy, MO) breakaway on the left wing. Pratt, who missed the irst two games nursing an injury, had her first career goal in her first start for the Gorloks.

Jessica Mess (FR, Northwest HS, MO) scored her first career goal twenty minutes later on a chip shot point blank over the Monmouth goalie. Mess scored off a Jordan Fosburgh (JR, Collinsville HS, IL) pass. Pratt complete the scoring with her second goal, on a tap in of a deflection of a Kristin Montgomery (SO, Duchesne HS, MO) pass.

Jessica Davis (SO, Belleville West HS, IL), earned her second straight shutout, as she recorded two saves. The Gorlok defense limited the Fighting Scots to six shots on goal for the afternoon.

Webster improves to 3-1 on the season. They will be back home on September 12 to take on Rose-Hulman Institute at the Soccer Park.
