2014 Women's Soccer Players of the Week
NOV. 3 - KRISTIN MONTGOMERY, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
(OFFENSIVE)
JESSICA DAVIS, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Montgomery, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., was
key in helping the Gorloks close out the regular season with an
undefeated conference mark. Montgomery scored a goal in each of her
team's two games on the week. She helped the Gorloks extend their
lead in a 3-0 win over Greenville and then netted the game-winning
goal in a 2-0 win over Fontbonne.
(Defensive) Davis, a senior from Belleville, Ill., recorded two more shutouts as her team won 3-0 over Greenville and 2-0 over Fontbonne. Davis recorded one save in her win against Greenville and added two saves in the win over Fontbonne. She extends her scoreless streak in net to 405-minutes and helped the Gorloks wrap up a perfect record in SLIAC play.
OCT. 27 - TIFFANY HAZELWONDER, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
(OFFENSIVE)
MADDIE REDOHL, FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Hazelwonder, a sophomore from Troy, Mo.,
propelled the Highlanders to their first conference wins of the
2014 season. Hazelwonder recorded two goals, including the game
winning goal, and one assist as the Highlanders defeated Iowa
Wesleyan. She followed with a hat trick, scoring all three of her
team's goals, in a win over Eureka. On the week Hazelwonder
finished with five goals and one assist for 11 total points. She
scored her five goals on just eights shots on goal and finished
with two game winning goals.
(Defensive) Redohl, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., anchored the Griffin backline that recorded a pair of shutouts over conference opponents last week. Redohl and the Griffin defense limited Greenville to just two shots in an overtime win. They followed with another 1-0 win as the topped Spalding, with Redohl marking the conference's leading scorer and keeping her off the board. With the wins Fontbonne tied a school record for wins in a season and remain undefeated in SLIAC play.
OCT. 20 - KIELEY LEACH, GREENVILLE COLLEGE
(OFFENSIVE)
ABBY ROCKERS, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Leach, a junior from Sycamore, Ill., helped
her team record their first two victories of the season last week;
defeating Rockford and MacMurray. Leach recorded a hat trick in
each game and totaled six goals and two assists on the week. Leach
helped her team take control early in each contest, scoring the
game's first three goals against Rockford and adding two assists
early in the second-half. Against MacMurray Leach tallied the
game's first two scores before netting her third goal at the
36-minute mark of the contest.
(Defensive) Rockers, a freshman from Jefferson City, Mo., anchored a Blue Jay defense that recorded back to back shutouts in conference games. Rockers and the Blue Jay defense stymied Iowa Wesleyan, holding them without a shot in a 3-0 win. Rockers and the Blue Jays then limited Spalding, who entered the game with the conference's best shot percentage, to just three shots on goal in a 3-0 win.
OCT. 13 - DEE DEE SLITER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
(OFFENSIVE)
NICOLE KELLY, BLACKBURN COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Sliter, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., had
a career day in her team's win over MacMurray. Sliter recorded
eight total points, recording five goals and one assist in the
contest. Sliter set a new career high in both goals and total
points in the contest. On the season she leads the SLIAC in total
points and goals and ranks second in assists. This marks the second
time this season Sliter has won the Offensive Player of the Week
award.
(Defensive) Kelly, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., picked up her second consecutive SLIAC Player of the Week honors as she once again stood out in net for the Beavers. Kelly recorded 27 saves in a 1-1 tie against Greenville. It marked Kelly's second consecutive 20-plus save performance. She currently ranks first in the conference in both saves and save percentage and is third in goals-against average.
OCT. 6 - KAYLA DYE, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (OFFENSIVE)
NICOLE KELLY, BLACKBURN COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Dye, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., helped
Webster to a win over Eureka College in a conference game over the
weekend. Dye tallied seven points in the win, recording a goal and
and an assist in the twin. Dye scored on three of her nine shots on
goal in the game as the Gorloks improved to 2-0 in the SLIAC.
(Defensive) Kelly, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., kept her team in the game against first-place Fontbonne. Kelly allowed just one goal while finishing the contest with 21 saves. Kelly stopped 11 shots in the first-half and added 10 more saves in the second-half. Kelly finished the game with a .955 save percentage as Fontbonne finished the game with 35 total shots.
SEPT. 29 - DEE DEE SLITER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
(OFFENSIVE)
PAIGE PFANKUCH, FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Sliter, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky.,
registered seven points in two games last week including a five
point effort in her team's conference opener. Sliter sparked the
Golden Eagles to a 3-1 win over Greenville in their SLIAC opener by
recording two goals, including the game-winner, and one assist. In
addition earlier in the week she added a goal in her team's game
against Franklin. On the week Sliter finished with three goals and
one assist for seven points. She scored on three of her five shots
on goal and currently leads the SLIAC in scoring.
(Defensive) Pfankuch, a junior from O'Fallon, Ill., helped Fontbonne extend their winning streak to three games with a pair of wins on the week. Pfankuch anchored a Griffins defense that recorded back to back shutouts including an 8-0 win over MacMurray in their SLIAC opener. Pfankuch and the Griffin defense limited their opponents to just three shots on goal in the two outings. In addition Pfankuch added an assist on the game-winning goal against Millikin, playing the ball into the box on a corner kick for the contest's only score.
SEPT. 22 - BAYLEE TABLER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
(OFFENSIVE)
RACHAEL AINSWORTH, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Tabler, a freshman from Bardstown, Ky.,
netted two goals in a win over Berea. Tabler scored her first goal
in the 12th minute of the contest and would add a second goal early
in the second half as Spalding picked up their second win of the
season.
(Defensive) Ainsworth, a freshman from Salt Lake City, Utah, nearly helped Webster pull off an upset over #1 ranked Washington University-St. Louis. Ainsworth finished the game with 13 saves, the fourth highest total by a Gorlok in program history. In her next outing Ainsworth stopped two shots in a tie against Franklin. On the week she finished with an .833 save percentage and a 1.35 goals against average.
SEPT. 15 - MEGHAN SYKORA, BLACKBURN COLLEGE
(OFFENSIVE)
KELSEY KAISER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Sykora, a freshman from Arnold, Mo., tallied
four goals in three games on the week, helping Blackburn pick up a
pair of wins and even their 2014 overall record. Sykora scored the
Beavers first goal against MacMurray and then assisted on the game
winning goal with just over 10-minutes left in regulation. Sykora
then netted a hat trick in her team's 3-0 win over Rockford.
(Defensive) Kaiser, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., recorded three saves in her team's first victory of the 2014 season. Kaiser stopped three of four shots in picking up the win, finishing the week with a 1.17 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage.
SEPT. 8 - TAYISAH POHTOS, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
(OFFENSIVE)
JESSICA DAVIS, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Pohtos, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., helped
Westminster pick up their first win of the season in a 2-0 win over
Ozarks. Pohtos netted the only goals of the game, tallying both
scores in the second-half.
(Defensive) Davis, a senior goal keeper from Belleville, Ill., continued her hot start to the 2014 season. Davis extended her scoreless minute streak to 253-minutes as she blanked two more opponents this week. Davis picked up a win in her team's 2-0 victory over Benedictine and followed with a four save shutout in her team's scoreless tie against Rhodes.
SEPT. 2 - AMY SCHIELD, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
(DEFENSIVE)
(Defensive) Amy Schield, a senior from Belleville, Ill., assumed
the responsibilities of marking the opponents top forward this past
week. Schield limited her opponent, an All-Region forward last
year, to just two shots in Webster's loss to #24 ranked Calvin. The
next day Schield once again shut down the opponents top striker,
limiting her to just one shot on goal in a double overtime tie
against Edgewood.
