Fontbonne's Hoener Notches 200th Career Win

When the Griffins netted their second goal against Oakland City Wednesday evening, Fontbonne women's soccer head coach Brian Hoener was eight minutes away from achieving his 200th career victory. The 16-year veteran has earned every win at Fontbonne, also his alma mater. At this time we'd like to shed some light on Hoener's career achievements as they continue to build.

Brian was the men's head coach from 2000-2014 and has been the women's head coach since 2011, having compiled a 155-107-33 men's record and 45-35-6 women's record for an overall coaching record of 200-142-39 during his 20-season tenure. He is the fourth coach in SLIAC history to amass 200 wins and has the second-most career victories among current coaches.

  1. Brian is the winningest coach for both the men and women's programs at Fontbonne
  2. took the men's program to the National Tournament three times (2003, 2004, 2006)
  3. women achieved the program's first SLIAC regular-season Conference Championship in 2012
  4. the men's program went to the SLIAC Tournament each eligible season under Hoener
  5. Hoener's best men's record in Fontbonne NCAA history was 2004 (18-5)
  6. 2001 was a good year - after a 3-13-2 record his inaugural season the men's program finished with an 11-5-1 overall record and 8-5-1 SLIAC record, placing the Griffins in third place during the regular season. This was the first winning season in the program since 1993 and the best conference finish since 1994
  7. Brian has won three SLIAC Coach of the Year awards in the past four years
  8. four-time SLIAC Men's Coach of the Year Award Recipient (2003, 2004, 2008, 2013)
  9. two-time SLIAC Women's Coach of the Year Award Recipient (2012, 2014)
  10. in 2014, two women were named All-Region Players - the first to happen in program history
  11. tied the following women's program records in 2014: wins (15), shutouts (12)
  12. set the women's program record of fewest goals allowed in 2014 (13)
  13. continues to earn NSCAA team ethic and academic awards annually
  14. coached 46 men's All-Conference players who combine for 75 All-Conference Awards
  15. coached 13 women's All-Conference players who combine for 23 All-Conference Awards
  16. coached seven SLIAC Newcomers of the Year
  17. coached four SLIAC Players of the Year who earned the award six times

The Fontbonne athletic department invites all alumni as well as past and current fans to Sunday's pre-game ceremony to publicly congratulate Coach Hoener and thank him for all he's done for Griffins past and present. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:45am on September 20th, 15 minutes before the women kickoff against Hendrix College.
