Westminster's Koonce Earns Academic All-District Honors

The 2015 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), were released today and Westminster senior Katie Koonce was among the list of honorees.

Westminster senior Katie Koonce was named to the 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team on October 29, 2015.

Koonce, a defender for the Westminster Blue Jays, holds a 4.00 cumulative GPA as a business communications major.

On the soccer field, Koonce has started in all 67 games she has played in. This season, she has helped the team maintain a 0.98 goals against average. On her career, she has helped the team to a 1.26 goals against average.

Offensively, Koonce has recorded two goals on her career and four assists.

In program history, just one other student-athlete received the All-District award. Katie Zagar '99 made the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team twice in her time at Westminster and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team in 1998.

Each year, CoSIDA elects Academic All-District members across NCAA Division I, II, III, and "College Division." The College Division is comprised of NAIA, two-year, and Canadian student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by current CoSIDA members—usually an institution's Sports Information Director— and must carry at least 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Nominated student-athletes must also be of sophomore athletic eligibility and be significant contributors to the success of their team.

Those selected to the Academic All-District will be eligible for the All-American team to be selected later in the season. Since 2011, Capital One has sponsored both the All-District and All-American awards.
