Gorloks Blank Westminster In Game of the Week

The Webster University women's soccer team picked up their SLIAC leading third conference win of the season by defeating Westminster College 5-0 in this week's SLIAC Game of the Week. Wednesday night's game was a rematch of last year's SLIAC Women's Soccer Championship in which Westminster advanced over Webster 5-4 on penalty kicks.

This year's meeting did not need any extra time as the Gorloks scored their second most goals in a game this season. Webster put the pressure on early against Westminster, out shooting the Blue Jays 10-0 in the first-half. Allison Ferguson broke the scoring with a goal at the 27-minute mark and Webster quickly added an insurance goal just three-minutes later when Melissa Kasper found the back of the net for the first of her two goals in the game.

Webster would tack on three more second-half goals while blanking the host Blue Jays. Webster out shot Westminster 19-3 in the game and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Ferguson and Kasper each had two goals for Webster with Janel Bond chipping in on the team's fifth goal of the game. Brianna Pagan added two assists. The Gorloks kept the Blue Jays keepers busy as Ellen Woolsey stopped six of her eight shots faced and Sarah Cradick stopping four of her seven shots. It was a light night for Webster keeper Aly Miller, who stopped both of the shots she faced in recording Webster's second consecutive shutout.

Webster improves to 5-6 overall and 3-0 in the SLIAC while Westminster falls to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Webster will take their two game winning streak into Saturday when they host MacMurray College at 1 p.m. while Westminster will look to snap their two game losing streak when they host Eureka on Saturday at 5 p.m.
