Principia Restructures Soccer Coaching Staff

Principia College Director of Athletics Dr. Lee Ellis has announced a change in the structure of the men's and women's soccer programs. Beginning July 2017, Director of Soccer Jess Semnacher will become Head Men's Coach, and Associate Director of Soccer Meagan Fleming will take over as Head Women's Coach. Deputy Director Nicole Gervais will continue assisting both programs in her role as Associate Head Coach, but will primarily focus on the women's program.

The change in structure reflects the desire of coaches and players for an organizational approach that will bring greater attention to the changing demands of the game and today's collegiate soccer student-athletes. In this new scenario, the talents of Jess, Meagan, and Nicole—three individuals who have been with our programs for years—will take on new energy and direction.

According to Dr. Ellis, "The original structure was designed to get three terrific coaches in the same room working with our student-athletes. The new set-up gives these same coaches a platform to further enhance the student-athlete experience, given their new assignments. Players and coaches alike requested the change. This is an exciting time moving forward for Principia soccer!"

"I am honored and excited to take on this new role", Fleming comments. "As I look over the past eight years, I have had the privilege of being mentored by Lee Ellis and Jess Semnacher, two very successful coaches. I am grateful for all they have taught me, and I am now ready to take the lead. I will have a strong cabinet of support to help with this transition. Nicole Gervais, who has extensive coaching experience at the collegiate level and who is a well-decorated soccer player, will be my advisor/assistant. Nadine Marczi, a recent Principia graduate and talented midfielder, is our graduate assistant. We will have a great team next year, full of potential and incredible women, and I can't wait to work with them as their new Head Coach!"

Current Director of Soccer Jess Semnacher comments, "This is the time to go back to the traditional model. While I have loved coaching the women and will miss working with them on a daily basis, I am very happy to hand over the reins to Meagan. She is a very capable and passionate coach. I am looking forward to continuing to build and deepen my relationship with the men's players. I see nothing but a bright future for both soccer programs."
