2017 Women's Soccer Players of the Week
October 30
(Offensive) Paige Townsend, Westminster College
Townsend, a senior from Nixa, Mo., picks up her second award this season. Last week Townsend recorded five goals and an assist in her team's two games, both wins. She started the week with four goals against Principia. She tallied her hat trick in just 12-minutes of action while her four goals are tied for most in program history. She followed with a goal and an assist against Eureka. She now has 19 goals on the season, tops in the SLIAC.
(Defensive) Elena Bloma, Webster University
Bloma is a two-time Defensive Player of the Week winner this fall after helping the Gorloks defense record two more shutout wins last week. Bloma and the Gorloks extended their current scoreless streak to 450 minutes with wins over Greenville and Spalding. She also added an assist in the win over Greenville.
October 23
(Offensive) Melissa Kasper, Webster University
Kasper, a sophomore from Chicago, Ill., scored in each of her team's two games last week. She finished with a goal and an assist in a win over Eureka, scoring on her only shot of the game. She followed with two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist against Principia. On the season Kasper has eight goals and 10 assists.
(Defensive) Lilly Brauer, Webster University
Brauer, a sophomore defender, anchored the Gorlok defense that extended their scoreless streak to 270 minutes. Brauer and the Gorloks picked up two more shutouts last week, over Eureka and Principia, while allowing just three shots on goal in the two games. Brauer also added a goal in her game against Eureka.
October 16
(Offensive) Lauren Nuelle, Webster University
Nuelle, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., led the Gorloks to a pair of conference wins last week, to remain undefeated in conference play. Nuelle started the week with a pair of goals in a 4-1 win over Westminster including netting the game-winner. She followed with a goal and an assist against MacMurray and finished the week with seven points in her two outings.
(Defensive) Anna Whitaker, Fontbonne University
Whitaker, a senior from East Alton, Ill., was effective in leading the Griffins to a pair of wins last week; both defensively and offensively. Whitaker and the Griffins allowed just four combined shots on the week. In her team's win over Blackburn, she also picked up three assists, giving her four on the season.
October 9
(Offensive) Lyndi Saccaro, MacMurray College
Saccaro, a senior from Rochester, Ill., powered the Highlanders to their first conference win this season. She scored four of her team's seven goals in their win over Eureka. Saccaro netted her first goal just five minutes into the game and added a second 10-minutes later. She recorded a hat-trick with a goal at the 18-minute mark and rounded out her day with an additional goal in the 61st minute. Her four goals came on just six shots.
(Defensive) Elena Bloma, Webster University
Bloma, a senior defender from St. Louis, Mo., was key in the Gorloks two shutout wins last week. Against Fontbonne, Bloma marked one of the top strikers in the conference, holding her to just one shot on goal. The Gorloks followed by allowing no shots in their win over Blackburn.
October 2
(Offensive) Meredith Wendt, Fontbonne University
Wendt, a senior forward from Troy, Ill., powered the Griffins to their first three-game winning streak of the season. In three games she totaled five goals and two assists for 12 total points. She netted two goals against Oakland City and added a goal, including the game-winner, and an assist against Harris-Stowe. In her team's conference-opening win against Eureka Wendt recorded two goals and an assist
(Defensive) Daniele Caruso, Fontbonne University
Caruso, a junior defender from St. Louis, Mo., helped the Griffins win three games last week; their first winning streak this season. With Caruso leading the defense the Griffins allowed just two goals over three games, including an average of just four shots on goal per game. In addition, she added two assists on the week.
September 25
(Offensive) Dani Pearce, Greenville University
Pearce, a junior, played a key role for the Panthers as they won three games last week. Pearce picked up two assists in her team's 3-1 win over Illinois College; setting up the game-winner. Pearce added a goal in an 8-0 win over Rockford before closing out the week with a goal and two assists against Maranatha Baptist including the game-winning goal.
(Defensive) Mary Beers, Fontbonne University
Beers, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., kept the Griffins in their game against Mount St. Joseph, tallying 15 saves in a 2-1 loss. Beers allowed two goals, accounting for a .882 save percentage in the game. The 15 saves are a career-high for Beers and give her 28 saves on the season for Fontbonne.
September 18
(Offensive) Meredith Wendt, Fontbonne University
Wendt, a senior from Troy, Ill., sparked the Griffins offense against Illinois College; helping her team to their first win of the season. Wendt played a role in five of her team's seven goals in the 7-1 win. She tallied three goals and two assists in the contest as the Griffins exploded for a season-high seven goals.
(Defensive) Ali Bumblis, Spalding University
Bumblis, a junior from Hendersonville, Tenn., helped Spalding to a 4-0 shutout win over Brescia last week. Bumblis led a Golden Eagle defense that not only recorded a shutout but limited their opponent to just three shots in the game. She also added a goal in the win for Spalding.
September 11
(Offensive) Paige Townsend, Westminster College
Townsend, a forward for Westminster, guided the Blue Jays to their first two wins of the year. Townsend scored two goals in a 5-1 win over Lakeland, scoring on just four shots on goal. She followed with a goal and two assists in her team's 9-0 win over Alverno. On the week Townsend finished with eight points on three goals and two assists.
(Defensive) Aly Miller, Webster University
Miller, a sophomore from Middleville, Mich., picked up the win in net for the Gorloks in their 2-1 overtime victory over Elmhurst. Miller came off the bench to play the final 58:30 of the game and made four saves including a clearing of a loose ball in the box during overtime.
September 5
(Offensive) Olivia Osterhage, Webster University
Osterhage, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., was busy in her team's three games last week; finishing with one goal and two assists. Osterhage set up the game-winning goal in her team's win over Illinois College. She then tallied the opening goal against Benedictine (Ill.) and later added an assist on the game-winning goal.
(Defensive) Sydney Tedesco, Webster University
Tedesco, a senior from Belleville, Ill., anchored a Gorlok defense that recorded two shutouts in the team's first three games. Both shutouts came on the road, with Webster topping Illinois College 2-0 and Concordia-Chicago 2-0. The defense allowed just 15 shots on the week and Tedesco also added the game-winning goal in the team's win over Illinois College.
