Brauer and Kasper Receive All-Region Honors

Webster University junior defender Lilly Brauer (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) and junior forward Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) were both named Second-Team United Soccer Coaches 2018 NCAA Division III Scholar All-North/Central Region Team selections on Monday by the organization.

It marks the second consecutive season that Webster has had two players named to the Scholar All-North/Central Region Team as last season Elena Bloma was a second-team honoree and Brianna Pagan was a third team selection. 

Brauer, who was recently named a Second-Team All-Central Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches, earns a spot on the Scholar North/Central Region Second Team thanks to a 3.87 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in biological sciences. This past season, Brauer was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Year and also earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors after serving as one of the primary anchors in the back of Webster's defense that allowed a total of 35 shots in league play, including holding two teams without a shot. She also scored a goal and took three shots on the season. For the season, Webster's defense allowed just a total of 16 goals and 171 shots in 20 matches and also recorded 11 shutouts, which was tied for tops in the league. 

Kasper, who was also recently named a Second-Team All-Central Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches, earns a spot on the Scholar North/Central Region Second Team thanks to a 3.89 cumulative GPA in biological sciences. This past season, Kasper was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-SLIAC selection after leading the league the league in goals (17), assists (19) and points (52) and was fifth in shots (66). She scored at least one point in all nine league matches as she had 12 goals and 14 assists for a total of 38 points in SLIAC play and tallied hat tricks against both MacMurray and Iowa Wesleyan. Kasper is one of 25 active NCAA Division III players that has scored 30 career goals and had 20 career assists. Her 19 assists this season set a new single-season school mark for assists and she finished the 2018 campaign third among all Division III players in assists per game (0.95) and second nationally in total assists (19). In addition, she was 10th nationally in total points (53) and 14th nationally in points per game (2.65). After three seasons as a Gorlok, Kasper is fourth in career assists (37), ninth in career goals (34) and tied for eighth in career points (105).

Brauer and Kasper were the only players from the SLIAC recognized on one of the three United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Scholar North/Central Region Team.
