MacMurray and Webster Receive USC Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award

MacMurray College and Webster University have received the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for the 2018 season. The pair were the only representatives from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to receive the award, and two of just 167 men's and women's college and high school programs nationwide honored by the organization. 
 
The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to USC members, according to a percentage formula. It is determined by the number of cards accumulated throughout the season by the team, divided by the number of games played. The award was created to recognize teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adhere to the laws of the game. The USC awards platinum, gold, silver, and bronze levels and in 2018 only 98 college women's teams nationally in all divisions (NCAA I, II, III, NAIA and NCCAA) were recognized.

MacMurray College, coached by Gabe Attansio, concluded the 2018 campaign with a 6-11 overall record, including 4-5 in the SLIAC. The Highlanders reached the gold level of the award this year.

This marks the seventh consecutive year that Webster has reached the silver level of the award. This past fall, the Gorloks had four yellow cards and zero red cards in 20 matches played (20.0 percent). It is the 11th time in the program's 20-year history that the Gorloks have earned this award from the United Soccer Coaches. Webster, coached by Luigi Scire, finished the 2018 campaign with a 16-3-1 overall record and took home its seventh consecutive SLIAC regular season title as the Gorloks went a perfect 9-0 in the league play for the third consecutive season.
