Gaskin Takes the Helm of IW Women's Soccer

Iowa Wesleyan University has named Chris Gaskin as the head coach for the women's soccer program, announced this morning by Derek Zander, Director of Athletics.

"I would like to thank Director Zander and everyone involved throughout the search process for the opportunity to lead Iowa Wesleyans Women's Soccer Program. I am very excited to be joining the Iowa Wesleyan and Mount Pleasant communities and am looking forward to working with the student-athletes and coaching staff. I want to thank my parents and family as well for their constant support and guidance," said Gaskin.

Gaskin becomes the ninth head women's soccer coach in program history and brings a wealth of experience with him.  He has coached at a variety of levels including college, high school, and club. As the head women's soccer coach at Green Mountain College, Gaskin guided the team to a Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in 2018 and the first winning season in the program since 2006. Prior to coaching at Green Mountain, he served as an assistant coach at Saint Mary's University in Minnesota.

"We are excited to have Chris join our coaching staff. His passion for teaching the game of soccer and developing a love of learning in his players was evident during the interview process," said Zander. "With his experience and success at the NCAA Division III level, we felt he would be a great fit with our University and athletic staff," he continued.

As a player at Green Mountain College, Gaskin earned multiple All-Conference honors and was named Male Athlete of the Year in 2012.  He also served as team captain and earned the team MVP award. Gaskin played for the Riverside Football Club and University of Stirling Futsal Team in Scotland in 2014 and 2015 and was named team captain and the Player's Player of the Season.

Gaskin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Green Mountain College in 2013 and earned his Master's degree in sports psychology in 2015. He also holds an NSCAA (USC) Advanced Diploma, as well as USSF F License and Scottish FA levels 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3.
