Regular Season Champs to Battle For Postseason Supremacy

Greenville University and Webster University shared the 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer regular-season title but on Saturday the two teams will decide postseason supremacy as the two top seeds of this year's tournament will face each other in the championship game. The two teams each went 7-1-1 against conference competition this season with Webster taking the regular-season meeting, 1-0.

Webster 1, Westminster 0 - BOX SCORE
Top-seeded Webster controlled their semifinal game against Westminster from the start, outshooting the Blue Jays 12-2 in the first 45-minutes. The Gorloks finally put one past Blue Jay keeper Sarah Cradick in the 30th minute. Gorlok forward Savannah Page pressured Cradick, who had the ball, forcing a miss-kick where Melissa Kasper gathered the ball and then lofted a shot from 20-yards out that floated over Cradick for a goal. That would be all the scoring the game would see as Westminster's best chance, a shot by Madison Ekern with three-minutes remaining, hit the cross-bar.

  • Webster outshot Westminster 20-6 in the game.
  • Taryn Banfield made three saves for the Gorloks in recording the shutout.

Greenville 2, Fontbonne 1 - BOX SCORE
Greenville, the #2 seed in the tournament, needed a come from behind win against #3 seed Fontbonne University to keep their postseason alive. The action saw Fontbonne jump out to an early lead with a goal from Molly Kovarik. Kovarik was sent on a break with a perfect lead pass from teammate Caroline Neal and wasted no time in slipping the ball into the back of the net. But just before halftime Kate Arthur placed a free kick just under the crossbar from 25-yards out to even the score. The Panthers took the lead in the 70th minute when Jen De Leon De Leon scored on a pass from Athena Hagerman. Despite outshooting Greenville 15-9, including 7-3 in the second half, the Griffins were never able to find the equalizer.

  • Greenville will be appearing in their 2nd straight SLIAC Championship game and are looking for the program's first-ever championship.
