Carlie Sanderude Named Women's Tennis Player of the Year; Principia Sweeps First Team Singles Awards

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the 2013 All-Conference Women's Tennis Team and special award winners.

Principia College's Carlie Sanderude was named the Player of the Year after posting an undefeated record of 6-0 in SLIAC play this season. Sanderude also went 2-0 in at #1 Singles to help lead Principia to the 2013 SLIAC Tournament Championship. In addition she earned First Team All-Conference honors at #1 Singles and #1 Doubles along with partner Corbitt.

Greenville College's Lexi Baysinger was named the Women's Tennis Newcomer of the Year. She recorded a 5-1 record in SLIAC action, with a 4-1 record at #3 Singles and 1-0 at #2 Singles. Her lone loss in conference play was a 1-6, 2-6, decision to Principia's Kelly Adams, who was a First Team All-SLIAC selection. Baysinger also had a record of 5-1 in doubles action, including 4-1 at #2 Doubles and 1-0 at #1 Doubles along with partner Kristen Lynch.

Principia head coach Shannon Carney was named the 2013 SLIAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year. Carney led Principia to its second conference tournament title in three years and 17th overall, while earning coach of the year for the first time. Her squad finished 6-0 in conference play and stood at 12-4 overall.

Greenville College received the Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive year and third time since the award's inception in 2006. The team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by her coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals fo sportsmanship. The 2013 All-Sportsmanship Team includes Mallory Cummings (Blackburn), Kelsey Shoemake (Eureka), Heather Flick (Fontbonne), Lexi Baysinger (Greenville), Sarah Corbitt (Principia), Hillary Fitz (Webster) and Mary Nestor (Westminster).
