Brannon, Cooley, Sprague Head Up All-Conference Teams
Brett Brannon, Paige Cooley, and Greer Sprague head up the list of 2019 SLIAC Women's Tennis All-Conference honorees. In addition, league coaches voted for Fontbonne University to receive the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award. A full list of All-Conference award winners is listed below.
Brett Brannon was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 12-6 record this past season, going 5-0 in conference play. He guided Greenville to the #1 seed in the conference tournament, marking the first time in program history they achieved that feat. The Panthers also advanced to the SLIAC Tournament Championship match for the first time since 2014. This marks the first time he has won the SLIAC Coach of the Year award and the third time a Greenville coach has won the award.
After a year away from the court Paige Cooley returned in dominant fashion, earning SLIAC Player of the Year honors. Cooley, a senior at Principia College, wins the third top individual award of her career, becoming just the second player in conference history to do so. Cooley not only went undefeated in conference play, going 6-0 in both the regular season and postseason, she also did not drop a single point, going 72-0 in set scores. Cooley was 17-2 overall in singles play and added another 11 wins in doubles action. She is the eighth different Principia player to win the league's top individual award.
Greer Sprague joins a long list of Principia players to received the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. Sprague, a freshman, becomes the eighth player in program history to receive the award. Sprague went 10-10 overall this season in singles play, going 5-0 against SLIAC competition. She played mainly at #3 singles for Principia and added seven more wins at doubles.
This is just the third time the Griffins have the Team Sportsmanship award, which is given to the team that best exemplifies the qualities and virtues of sportsmanship throughout the season.
