Davis-Goldstein Steps Down as Gorloks Coach

Webster University Director of Athletics Scott Kilgallon has announced that Martha Davis-Goldstein has stepped down as the school's head women's tennis coach effective immediately.

"I would like to thank Martha for her tremendous commitment to our women's tennis team and for her positive impact on her players over the years," Kilgallon said. "One of my fondest experiences was watching her guide the team to two SLIAC Championships and two NCAA Championships advancing to the second round in 2015. I want to wish Martha all the best and continued success as she embarks on her new career."

Davis-Goldstein is stepping out of the coaching world and is going to be working for the Webster University School of Communications Department as an Events and Outreach Coordinator.

"I am grateful for my time coaching tennis at Webster University, said Davis-Goldstein. "Webster Athletics has been a second family for almost a decade. It has been rewarding making an impact on many student-athletes lives. Although this moment is bittersweet, I am excited to take on a new challenge with the School of Communications."

In her six seasons as Webster's head women's tennis coach, Davis-Goldstein compiled a 65-49 record and led the Gorloks to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles in both 2015 and 2018 and was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year in 2015.

She led Webster to four winning seasons, including winning 15 matches each in both 2015 and 2016 and also led the program to NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2015 and 2018. The 2015 squad advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as they won their opening round match against Hanover.

As Webster's coach, Davis-Goldstein, who came to Webster as an assistant men's and women's tennis coach in 2010, coached 14 different All-SLIAC performers, including nine First-Team selections and also coached the SLIAC Players of the Year in 2014 (Marissa Lewis) and 2018 (Monica Behrle) and the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2015 (Behrle).

"I want to personally thank Tom Hart for giving me the opportunity to begin my coaching career and Scott Kilgallon for his many years of guidance and mentorship. I also want to acknowledge my tennis colleagues at Webster University, Michael Siener, Carl Walker, and Kaylen Kress for their years of collaboration and support," Davis-Goldstein added.

This past spring, Davis-Goldstein led the Gorloks to a 7-9 record and a third-place finish in both the SLIAC regular season and tournament.

Her 65 wins are second most in the program's history, while her two SLIAC titles are tied for most in school history as Mike Siener won two SLIAC titles as Webster's women's tennis coach from 2006-13.

Kilgallon said that a national search for Davis-Goldstein's replacement is in the beginning stages and he hopes to have a coach in place by mid-July.
