Greenville Women Edge out Westminster for SLIAC Track and Field Title

The Greenville College women's track and field program edged out Westminster College to claim the 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Invitational Title. The invitational was held in conjunction with the Illinois College Open and was scored separately from the main event.

Greenville scored 152 points in the Invitational, narrowly passing last year's winner Westminster College who finished second with 147 points. This marks Greenville's third SLIAC title, joining the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Principia College finished third with 88 points and was followed by Spalding with 53 points, Webster with 44 points, Fontbonne with 14 points, Iowa Wesleyan with 8 points and Eureka with one point.

Greenville won 8 of 19 events during the meet. Taylor Brunner led the way for Greenville, winning four events. Brunner took first place in the long jump with a distance of 5.22 meters. She then followed with a win in the javelin, with a distance of 36.54 meters, and the high jump, with a height of 1.62 meters. Brunner recorded another win in the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 16.68 seconds.

Chelsea Gilles notched a win in the 400 meter dash for Greenville with a time of 58.93 seconds while teammate Alex Gregory added a win in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.95 seconds. The Panthers also added a win in the 4x100 meter relay event.

Lyssa Winslow was also a repeat winner for Principia, taking first in both the shot put and discus. Winslow won the shot put with a distance of 12.53 meters and the discus with a distance of 40.36 meters.
