Webster Finishes First Among SLIAC Teams at Meet

The Webster University women's track and field team took first place among SLIAC teams this past weekend in a conference wide meet in Greenville, Ill. The Gorloks finished with 168 total team points, edging past Greenville College who had 150 points. Westminster College took third place with 118 total team points.

Webster picked up six first place finishes on the day. The Gorloks grabbed the first two spots in the 100 meter dash event with Taylor Porter finishing first with a time of 12.64 seconds and Jenny Howard taking second. Valerie Martin grabbed a first place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:53.91 and added a top finish in the 5000 meter run. Meghan Illig and Dasha Hawkins teamed up to take the top two spots in the 100 meter hurdles. Porter grabbed another individual title with a first place finish in the long jump and Alyssa Feldewert capped the Gorloks titles with a first place finish in the javelin.

Greenville's Chelsea Gilles doubled up with titles in the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. The Panthers also had the top two finishers in the 800 meter run with Krissy Finley placing first, followed by Brooke Goodyear in second. The Panthers team of Iyeesha Deberry, Alex Gregory, Josie Muniania, and Chelsea Gilles grabbed the 4x100 meter relay title. Michaela Harris notched a first place finish in the triple jump while fellow field member Abby Hill grabbed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 46.30 meters.

Westminster picked up first place points in the 10,000 meter run when Brier Skogsberg finished the event in a time of 40:25.00. The Blue Jays added a first place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with Shannon McCaul registering the win. The Blue Jays team of Taylor Howard, Nyma Njie, Tanisha Terrell, and Danielle Smulczenski grabbed the 4x400 meter relay title with a time of 4:11.17. Taylor Howard added a pole vault title to secure a third place team finish for the Blue Jays.

Spalding University finished fourth with 61 total team points. Krystina Perez placed first in the high jump with a distance of 1.52 meters. The Golden Eagles picked up points with a second place finish by Kayla Payne in the 10,000 meter run and a third place finish in the 800 meter run by Jenna Johnston. The Golden Eagles racked up points in the discus as Maya Hardin and Katie Suiters took second and third respecitvely.

Principia College took fifth place after totaling 46 total team points. The Panthers Lyssa Winslow was the stand out performer for Principia, taking first in both the shot put and discus. Winslow grabbed blew away the field in both events; finishing with a shot put distance of 13.67 meters, nearly three meters further than the second place finisher. Her distance of 37.95 meters in the discus was almost two meters further than the second place finisher. Sarah Litwiller grabbed a second place finish in the 1500 meter run

Fontbonne University was sixth with 27 points and was led by Becca Buehler's first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 1:06.08. The Griffins Claire Becker picked up points with a fourth place finish in the 5000 meter run, finishing in a time of 20:56.34. Olivia Beggs placed third in the 10,000 meter run for big points for the Griffins.

Eureka College finished seventh with six points, their top finisher being Rabeck Williamson with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.
