2017 Women's Track and Field Players of the Week

APRIL 24
(Field) Raven Venegas, Fontbonne University
The SLIAC Field Player of the Week is Raven Venegas, from Fontbonne University. Venegas competed in four events last weekend, taking first place in three of them. She set the school record in the hammer throw, 39.05 meters, taking first, and also finishing first in both the discus throw and shot put.

(Track) Jessie Kuykendall, Westminster College
Jessie Kuykendall is the SLIAC Women's Track Player of the Week. The sophomore at Westminster College took first-place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in a time of 10:53.38. That time is nearly a full minute faster than anyone else in the SLIAC has recorded this spring.

APRIL 17
(Field) Meredith Sowers, Webster University
Webster University freshman Meredith Sowers is the SLIAC Women's Field Player of the Week. Sowers, from Rolla, Mo., competed in three separate events at the Greenville Select; pole vault, 100-meter hurdles, and 400-meter hurdles. She broke the school record in the pole vault with a height of 2.60 meters and set personal records in both the 100 meter and 400-meter hurdles.

(Track) Jakara Davidson-Brooks, Webster University
Jakra Davidson-Brooks is the SLIAC Women's Track Player of the Week. Davidson-Brooks, a freshman for the Gorloks, placed in the top six in two events at the Greenville Select. She finished fifth in the long jump, with a distance of 5.10 meters, setting a school record. Davidson-Brooks also finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.02 seconds.

APRIL 10
(Field) Alyssa Feldewert, Webster University
Alyssa Feldewert, of Webster University, is the SLIAC Women's Field Player of the Week. Competing in both the javelin and discus Feldewert was able to pick up two top seven finishes. She placed first in the javelin, with a distance of 35.06 meters, the longest throw this season among SLIAC competitors. She placed seventh in the discus with a distance of 27.80 meters at the Big Blue Invite.

(Track) Meghan Illig, Webster University
Meghan Illig is the SLIAC Women's Track Player of the Week after two first-place finishes at the Big Blue Invite. Illig, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., took first in both the 100 meter and 400-meter hurdles, setting school records in both events. She finished the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.41 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.56 seconds.

APRIL 3
(Field) Raven Venegas, Fontbonne University
For the second week in a row, Fontbonne University's Raven Venegas is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Field Player of the Week. Venegas, a freshman from Racine, Wis., recorded two top ten finishes last week while competing in the Hanover Invitational. She placed second in the shot put, with a distance of 11.61 meters. In the discus, throwing a distance of 35.48 meters, she took seventh place while setting a new personal best and school record.

(Track) Shannon McCaul, Westminster College
Shannon McCaul takes home the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Player of the Week award after a pair of top-five finishes at the Lindenwood John Creer Invitational. McCaul, a senior from Rolla, Mo., took second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:49.14. She added a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:26.83. Both times are the top performances in the conference this season.

MARCH 27
(Field) Raven Venegas, Fontbonne University
Raven Venegas begins her outdoor season as the SLIAC Women's Field Player of the Week. Venegas, a freshman from Racine, Wis., competed in three events at two meets last week, with a top three finish in the discus. Venegas took second place in the discus at the Falcon Classic, throwing a distance of 35.22 meters. She also notched a mark of 12.19 meters in the shot put at Rhodes, the 21st best mark this season in Division III. Venegas just missed a top ten finish in the hammer throw at the Falcon Classic with a mark of 37.26 meters.

(Track) Meghan Illig, Webster University
Meghan Illig is the SLIAC Women's Track Player of the Week after three top three finishes last week for the Gorloks. Illig, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., took second place in the 100-meter hurdles at Culver-Stockton, finishing in a time of 15.74 seconds. She actually had a better time of 15.47 seconds at the Rhodes Invitational, where she placed third, setting a school record. Illig also took third place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.45, a Webster record, at Rhodes.
