2019 SLIAC Track and Field Championship

The 3rd St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship is set for this weekend in Greenville, Illinois. The meet will consist of seven conference members competing over two days for the 2019 SLIAC Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships. Friday's events include multiple throwing events and long distance running events. Saturday is set for a 10 a.m. start and will be the majority of the competition, concluding with the relay events around 5 p.m.

Eureka RED DEVILS

Head Coach: Kurt Barth

Last Year's Finish: 5th (M), 6th (W)

Eureka finished 5th on the men's compeition in team results at last year's meet, totaling 34 points. It was Brett Charlton that led the charge for the Red Devils with a 2nd place finish in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. He also placed in the long jump while Dahzee Horton took 3rd in the triple jump. On the women's side Annaliese Miller finished 2nd in the high jump while Ashley Harfst captured gold in the javelin and 2nd in the discus.

Fontbonne GRIFFINS

Head Coach: Phillip Justin Halley

Last Year's Finish: 7th (M), 3rd (W)

Natalie Zmuda will be key for the Griffins women's team in short distance races while Katie Gosser is coming off a school record performance in the hepthahlon. Gosser was also part of a record breaking 4x400 relay team. The Griffins women's team should perform well in throwing, led by the trio of Raven Venegas, Jillian Venegas, and Sierra Moore. All three are in the top four of shot put and discus distances among SLIAC players this spring. Emily Bay is one of the favorites in the javelin with a conference best 101'6" mark this year. On the men's side Juwan Lee and Austin Joyce will be competing at multiple events for the Griffins. Greih Murray will look for a medal among the three throwing events he will compete in this weekend.

Greenville PANTHERS

Head Coach: Brian Patton

Last Year's Finish: 1st (M), 2nd (W)

Greenville has won the men's team championship in each of the two years the SLIAC Track and Field Championship has been held and are one of the favorites again this year. A deep lineup is led by Jeremiah Davis in the sprint events while new addition Rakim Murphy has come on strong as well. John Mangold is one of the top middle distance runners in the conference while Dylan Goodyear is the favorite in the 5K. David Martin is coming off a strong performance in the decathlon; setting six personal best marks last weekend. The Panthers should perform well in the throwing events as well with Mitchell Hooten and LC Washington. On the women's side Cayden Sharp holds the conference mark in the 100-meter dash with teammates Jessica Staley and Haniah Davis also threats.

Principia PANTHERS

Head Coach: Robert Baker

Last Year's Finish: 3rd (M), 7th (W)

All eyes for Principia will be on Corey Carter, one of the top sprinters in the nation. Carter leads the conference times in both 100-meters and 200-meters this season and is also 2nd in the 400-meters. E.G. Pierce will challenge in the middle distance events while Abe Ott will look for a medal in long distance. Jonathan Ansumana will look to make some noise in several events while Chris Puduski will challenge in the hammer throw. On the women's side, Laura Cluthe is the teams top short distance runner while Afton Leslie anchors the middle distance runners. Abby Holt is strong in the jumping events, ranking in the top five in the conference in both pole vault and long jump.

Spalding GOLDEN EAGLES

Head Coach: Bradley Sowder

SLIAC Titles: 2

Last Year's Finish: 4th (M), 4th (W)

Spalding will be led by Kelsey Hamilton, one of the top runners on the women's side. Hamilton is versataile and ranks among the leaders in both short distance and middle distance events as well as the 5K and is tops in the 3000 steeplechase. Deion Walls will compete in short distance for the men while they have a pair of strong middle distance performers in Will Brittian and Eli Thomas.

Webster GORLOKS

Head Coach: Nick Niehaus

Last Year's Finish: 2nd (M), 1st (W)

Webster will look to defend their women's title and will lean on the performances of their runners to achieve that. Meredith Sowers will be one of the busier competitors, leading the conference this spring in the 800-meters, 100-hurdles, 400-hurdles, and pole vault. Daisha Reece will challenge in the sprint events while Vanessa Jones and Jakara Davidson-Brooks will also look for medals in several events. Johnae Hightower will challenge in the jumping events. Jacob Ridenhour is among the conference's best short distance men's runners while Nathan Freyling could find gold in the 5K or 10,000 meters. Dimitrije Mitic is one of the top men's throwers and had a conference best throw of 166'3" in the javelin this spring.

Westminster BLUE JAYS

Head Coach: Will Crocker

Last Year's Finish: 6th (M), 5th (W)

Westminster is welcoming in a brand new head coach, Will Crocker. Franklin Nik has a team best distance of 17'9.75" in the long jump this season. John Martin meanwhile set several school records during indoor season and will be competing in the throwing events while Kjia Zuroweste is the team's top thrower on the women's side.
