Webster's Kersting Named AVCA All-American

ST. LOUIS - Sam Kersting (SO, Lindbergh HS, MO) added one more honor for her outstanding first season with the Webster University women's volleyball team...All-American. Kersting was named to the 2012 All-American Third Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA DIII All-American committee.

Kersting was one of 42 NCAA III players nationwide selected to the three All-American teams, and one of only 12 underclassmen selected.

Kersting had previously been named to the 2012 AVCA All-Central Region Team. The awards will be presented Nov. 14 at the NCAA Division III Women's National Championship banquet in Holland, MI, where the 2012 Division III AVCA Player of the Year will be announced.

She is believed to be the first Webster volleyball player named to the AVCA All-American team. In addition to the AVCA awards, Kersting was a 2012 SLIAC All-Conference First-Team pick and named to the All-Tournament team at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. Kersting was a SLIAC Player of the Week selection three diiferent times during the 2012 season.

Kersting led the team in solo blocks (44), block assists (89), and blocks per set (1.28). Kersting was also first in kills with 290, hitting percentage at .354, and second in kills per set at 2.79.
