2014 Volleyball Players of the Week

NOV. 3 - KERSTEN McDONOUGH, FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY (OFFENSIVE)
               KRISTA BEYER, FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) McDonough, a sophomore from Pacific, Mo., recorded a career high 27 kills in five set thriller against Principia. McDonough had 27 kills on 68 attempts, finishing with over half of her team's kills in the match. She averaged 5.4 kills per set and hit .265 in the match. This is the second time this season she has been honored as the Player of the Week.

(Defensive) Beyer, a senior from Collierville, Tenn., is this week's SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Beyer made her presence known on the court against Principia, finishing the five set match with 35 digs. Her 35 digs are a season high. Beyer averaged 7.0 digs per set.

OCT. 27 - ELISA BURKMAN, SPALDING UNIVERSITY (OFFENSIVE)
                 JAMIE SCHOLLENBRUCH, GREENVILLE COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Burkman, a senior from Louisville, Ky., kept her team in the running for the post-season with a pair of wins last week including topping then first-place Westminster. Burkman recorded 10 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Eureka, finishing with just one error and a .375 hitting percentage. She then powered her team to a 3-1 win over Westminster, recording 18 kills with just two errors. On the week Burkman hit .357 and finished with 28 kills in two matches. She added 11 digs and averaged 4.8 points per set.

(Defensive) Schollenbruch, a junior from Decatur, Ill., is this week's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Panthers defense in a 3-1 win over Fontbonne last week. Schollenbruch finished the four set match with 24 digs, averaging 6.0 digs per set. She added four service aces in the win as the Panthers moved back into first-place in the SLIAC standings.

OCT. 20 - ALLYSON MITCHELL, GREENVILLE COLLEGE (OFFENSIVE)
                 KAYLA REEG, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Mitchell, a freshman, was the go to player for the Panthers last week as she lead her team in kills in both matches. Mitchell finished with a team high 11 kills in a sweep of Eureka. In the showdown against Westminster the freshman responded with a match high 15 kills while hitting .419 on 31 attempts. On the week Mitchell averaged 4.33 kills per set, hitting .345 and accounted for 4.6 points per set.

(Defensive) Reeg, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., is this week's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after picking up her duties on the defensive side of the ball in addition to running the Blue Jay offense. Reeg recorded double digit digs in a pair of conference matches while also showing her quickness at the net. Reeg picked up 17 digs in a win over Fontbonne, adding four block assists. She followed with 16 digs in a three set sweep of then undefeated Greenville, adding three block assists. In six sets on the week she finished with 33 total digs, averaging 4.71 digs per set, and seven blocks.

OCT. 13 - SAM KERSTING, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (OFFENSIVE)
                 JAMIE SCHOLLENBRUCH, GREENVILLE COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Kersting, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., led the Gorlok attack in picking up a pair of conference wins last week. Kersting finished the week with an impressive .595 attack percentage, averaging 4.0 kills per set in her two outings. Kersting started the week with 14 kills on just 19 attacks, with no errors, in her team's sweep of Blackburn. She followed with 10 kills in a win over Eureka, adding seven total blocks. On the week Kersting finished with 24 kills on 37 attacks and averaged 5.3 points per set in two conference matches.

(Defensive) Schollenbruch, a junior, led the Panther defense in three matches this past week. She started the week with a 44 dig effort against Rose-Hulman. In that match Schollenbruch recorded her 44 digs in five sets while adding three assists. She followed with 15 digs in a conference meeting against Iowa Wesleyan and 13 more digs against Benedictine-Springfield. On the week Schollenbruch averaged 6.55 digs per set and finished with 72 digs in three matches. This marks the second time this year Schollenbruch has won the Defensive Volleyball Player of the Week award.

OCT. 6 - KAYLA REEG, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE (OFFENSIVE)
               SUMMER SWITZER, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Reeg, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., helped the Blue Jays go undefeated on the week, sweeping three of four conference matches. Reeg helped run an efficient attack, hitting .214 as a team on the week. Reeg averaged 10.85 assists per set, balancing the attack with four attackers recording over 30 kills on the week. Reeg tallied a high of 39 assists in a win over Spalding and registered 30 or more assists in three of four outings.

(Defensive) Switzer, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., is the Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.67 digs per set in three conference matches this week. Switzer had a career high 39 digs against Webster, averaging 7.8 per set while adding three assists and a kill in the match. Switzer finished the week with 68 digs in 12 sets and moved into second place on the program's all-time dig list.

SEPT. 29 - TESS ROUNTREE, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE (OFFENSIVE)
                  CAROLINE WILL, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Rountree, a senior from Paso Robles, Calif., led her team to a pair of conference wins this week by averaging 5.2 kills per set and recording three double-doubles. Rountree started the week with 17 kills and 14 digs against Webster. She followed with 15 kills, hitting .609 in the match, and 10 digs in a sweep of Blackburn. She closed the week out with 20 kills and 17 digs in a win over MacMurray. On the week Rountree finished with 52 kills with a .270 hitting percentage. Rountree accounted for a total of 59.5 points in the three matches.

(Defensive) Will, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., propelled the Blue Jays defense this week in a pair of conference matches including her program's first win over Webster in 11 years. Will recorded 22 digs and five assists in a four set loss to #4 ranked Washington University-St. Louis. Will then finished with 22 digs in a sweep of Webster and closed out the week with 21 digs against first-place Greenville. On the week Will averaged 6.14 digs per set while adding 14 assists.

SEPT. 22 - KERSTEN McDONOUGH, FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY (OFFENSIVE)
                  LEXI COLLIER, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) McDonough, a sophomore from Pacific, Mo., led her team's attack this past week, averaging 5.23 kills per set in three conference matches. McDonough recorded 19 kills and nine digs against MacMurray and followed with 18 kills in a win over Spalding. She closed out the week with a career-high 31 kills against Westminster; becoming just the second SLIAC player to reach the 30 kill mark in a conference match over the last five years. On the week she totaled 68 kills while hitting .282 and adding 16 digs.

(Defensive) Collier, a junior from Weston, Mo., helped the Blue Jays remain undefeated in conference play with wins over Iowa Wesleyan and Fontbonne. Collier averaged 5 blocks per match on the week including seven block assists in a win over Fontbonne. She finished the week with two solo blocks and eight block assists, averaging 1.25 blocks per set and totaling six points from blocking alone.

SEPT. 15 - SAVANNAH SELLS, GREENVILLE COLLEGE (OFFENSIVE)
                  RACHEL NELSON, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Sells, a sophomore from Highland, Ill., was nearly unstoppable this week in opening up SLIAC play. Sells hit .486 on the week while sparking her team to three wins including a pair of conference victories. Sells started the week with 14 kills against Lincoln Christian in a non-conference match. She followed with a week high 15 kills in her team's 3-2 win over Principia and added seven kills in a sweep of MacMurray. On the week Sells finished with 36 kills and just two errors in 70 attempts.

(Defensive) Nelson, a junior from Papillion, Neb., was impressive in her team's lone match this week, a 3-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan. Nelson recorded 11 total blocks in the win, finishing with three solo blocks and eight block assists. She added seven kills and finished the match with a team high 15 points.

SEPT. 8 - TESS ROUNTREE, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE (OFFENSIVE)
                 JAMIE SCHOLLENBRUCH, GREENVILLE COLLEGE (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) Rountree, a senior from Paso Robles, Calif., was the go to player for the Panthers this week as she averaged over 6 kills per set in four matches. Rountree recorded a pair of 30 kill performances with a week high of 33 kills against St. Olaf. She averaged 6.12 kills in her four matches, hitting .293 on the week and added 3.8 digs per set.

(Defensive) Schollenbruch, a junior from Decatur, Ill., finished the week averaging just under 10 digs per set. Schollenbruch recorded at least 21 digs in all five of her matches including three 30 dig matches. Her best performance of the week was a 39 dig outing against Benedictine. She finished the week averaging 9.41 digs per set and added 10 service aces.

SEPT. 2 - TESS ROUNDTREE, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE (OFFENSIVE)
                JORDAN VEHLEWALD, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY (DEFENSIVE)
(Offensive) The defending SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Year, Tess Rountree is this week's Player of the Week. Rountree, a senior from Paso Robles, Calif., recorded three double digit kills matches, averaging 4.69 kills per set on the week. She had a week best 21 kills in a win over Knox and closed out the week with 19 kills against Aurora. Rountree added four service aces on the week and average 5.5 points per set.

(Defensive) Jordan Vehlewald, a senior from Wildwood, Mo., is the SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Gorloks to their first 2-0 start to the season since 2011. Vehlewald recorded 17 digs in a pair of matches last weekend. She averaged 5.67 digs in a three set sweep of Hanover and averaged 3.4 digs in a five set win over Buena Vista. Vehlewald also finished with 41 serve receives on the week.
