MacMurray Volleyball Raises Money for Cystic Fibrosis

The MacMurray College volleyball team recently hosted a fundraising event to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This past August MacMurray College hosted Augustana College in a preseason scrimmage. The teams raised $700, with all proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Gateway Chapter in St. Louis, Mo.

"As a program, we were honored to be able to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and such a worthy cause," said MacMurray head volleyball coach Danielle Doerfler. "We are privileged to host this event and hope it provides education and awareness of cystic fibrosis, while also honoring those who fight and have fought this disease."

The event included a junior varsity and varsity match and was free to the public. The teams collected donations at the door, sold wristbands and pins, and held a serving contest during the scrimmage.

Cystic Fibrosis is primarily a lung disease caused by a defective gene that makes the body produce thick mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's mission is to find a cure and to improve the quality of life for people living with the disease. They accomplish this mission by funding life-saving research and working to provide quality care and effective therapies for all people with the disease.
