Principia Volleyball Serves Up "Week of Giving"

The Principia College volleyball team kicked off their "week of giving" with a trip to Peace Haven Association, a Christian Science Nursing Facility and Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service, to do some volunteer work. The girls split up into three groups, one painted finger nails for the annual "nails for Nana" service, one group washed and filled bird feeders, and the last group worked on the landscape.

The lovely residents at Peace Haven are a joy to be around, and the volleyball team always has a great time painting nails and getting to know some of the ladies.  The grounds around Peace Haven are beautiful and assisting the staff with various landscaping tasks is always very well received.

Head coach
Mary Ann Sprague says, "It is one of my favorite days of the year when the volleyball team has the privilege of interacting with the wonderful folks at Peace Haven, and we love to chip in and help out any way we can.  It is a very enriching annual event for us.  The upperclassmen are so eager to take the freshmen to serve!"

After a full afternoon of service, the girls take a dinner break and then return to Peace Haven to sing hymns to the residents before bed.  The team gathers in the main common room and takes hymn requests from anyone wanting to hear a song they love.  Senior captain
Sierra Sprague comments, "It was touching to see how inspired and uplifted the guests at Peace Haven were when we got to collaborate in singing some beautiful hymns."

Thanks to the administration at Peace Haven for hosting the team and giving them the opportunity to serve!
