Greenville Extends Confernece Mark To Seven
The women's volleyball defeated Spalding and MacMurray on Saturday to clinch no worse than a tie for their conference record seventh consecutive SLIAC championship.
The Lady Panthers opened with a 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-16 victory over Spalding and topped MacMurray 25-11, 25-16, 25-10.
Allyson Mitchell led Greenville with 15 kills and three service aces against Spalding as she was the Lady Panthers' top offensive producer.
Savannah Sells, Sierah Ruffner , and Cheyenne Vaca had seven kills apiece as Greenville's attack was directed by Kirsten Laune who produced 37 assists.
Janisha Pealer had 13 digs to lead Greenville's defense.
Brittni Bell tallied five block assists.
Mitchell was back at it against MacMurray as she had 12 kills and tied Pealer for the team lead in digs with seven.
Laune provided 29 assists and five service aces.
Bell added one solo block and four block assists.
"These kids are tough, and they have grown up in a culture that understands winning," said head coach Tom Ackerman. "They embrace that and find ways to compete at the highest level every match."
"I'm proud of them for another title, but we are far from done and we have plenty left that we feel we need to accomplish."
The share of their seventh regular season championship extends Greenville's SLIAC record in volleyball for consecutive league titles.
The Lady Panthers (22-7, 15-2 SLIAC) travel to Westminster on Wednesday to play for the No. 1 seed in the SLIAC tournament scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5.
If the Lady Panthers defeat the Blue Jays, Greenville will host the SLIAC tournament for the fifth straight season and sixth time in seven years. Westminster will host the SLIAC tournament if they defeat Greenville. The tournament field is set and will include Greenville, Westminster, Webster, and Spalding.
