Yates Earns 400th Career Win

The Spalding University volleyball team clinched a berth in the 2016 SLIAC Tournament sweeping Iowa Wesleyan, 25-12, 27-25, 26-24. The win marked a major milestone, Head Coach Bridget Yates earned her 400th career win while at the helm of the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles capped off the weekend with a 3-2 win against non-conference opponent University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
With the wins the Golden Eagles improve to 19-8 on the season and 12-4 in SLIAC play.

Spalding took the morning match against Iowa Wesleyan, 3-0. The senior duo of Jessica Diehl and Victoria Heitzman led the Golden Eagle offensive attack. Deihl tallied 12 kills, Heitzman finished with 10 and Katelyn Cosgrove passed out 28 assists. Alyssa Cosgrove led the defensive effort with 16 digs, while Heitzman and Michaela Walker finished with one block assist apiece.

The Golden Eagles capped off the weekend taking UW-Platteville in five sets, 3-2. Alyssa Cosgrove paced the offense with 22 kills, a single game team-high on the season. Jessica Diehl added 14 kills, Victoria Heitzman 11, and Katelyn Cosgrove passed out 50 assists. SU had four players finish with double-digit digs. Koti Weaver led the Golden Eagles with 18 digs, while A. Cosgrove added 16 and Heitzman and K. Cosgrove finished with 10 each.
Diehl led the blockers with five total blocks, four solo and one assist.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Wednesday celebrating senior day against Franklin College. SU will honor the seniors before the match. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST.
