Farrah Doubles Up On Awards, Flesner and Sprague Also Honored
Webster University's Kristen Farrah was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year for the 2018 volleyball season. In addition, Kamryn Flesner was named the Newcomer of the Year and Mary Ann Sprague the Coach of the Year.
Farrah, a sophomore from St. Charles, Mo., becomes the first player in conference history to take home both awards in the same season. The libero led all conference players in digs per set (8.75) and totaled 490 digs in 18 conference matches. With Farrah in the backcourt, she helped the Gorloks average a conference-leading 24.66 digs per set this season. Overall this year, she currently ranks second in NCAA Division III in digs per set (8.10). Farrah set the single-season digs mark earlier this season and has recorded double-digit digs in every match this season including a high of 46 against Loras.
Kamryn Flesner brings the Newcomer of the Year award to the campus of MacMurray College. Flesner, from Payson, Illinois, recorded 160 kills, 80 digs, and 29 total blocks during her 18 conference matches. The freshman hit .144 against conference foes and averaged 2.7 points per set. She had a high of 20 kills in conference play and reached double-digit kills on seven occasions against SLIAC teams. In her first year with the Highlanders, Flesner led the team in kills and kills per set while ranking third in hitting percentage and fourth in blocks.
The 2018 SLIAC Coach of the Year is Mary Ann Sprague, head coach of Principia College. This is the 4th time in her coaching history she has been named the league's top coach. Sprague led Principia to an 18-4 overall record, going 15-3 in the SLIAC and earning the third seed in the conference tournament. The 15 conference wins are tied for the most in program history.
Principia College also receives the 2018 SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award. This is the sixth time in program history the Panthers have received the honor that goes to the school whose coaches, players, and fans best exemplify the ideals of sportsmanship.
