Wagy Departing Iowa Wesleyan

After five years at the helm of the Iowa Wesleyan women's volleyball team, BJ Wagy will step down as head coach of the Tigers, which was announced by Director of Athletics, Derek Zander this afternoon.

"I am very thankful to Iowa Wesleyan and the community for their support over the last five years. I will forever cherish the relationships I've made with my athletes and colleagues," said BJ Wagy. "Iowa Wesleyan, the athletic department, and specifically the volleyball team, will always be a part of my life.  I am a proud alum and I wish nothing but the absolute best for this institution as it moves forward."

Wagy has served many roles during her time as a coach and administrator at Iowa Wesleyan.  As the head volleyball coach, her program saw the most success this past season when the Tigers went 10-19 overall and 7-10 in SLIAC play.  She coached numerous USCAA National All-Academic All-Americans and SLIAC Academic All-Conference recipients. Under Wagy, former Tiger Cierra Howard earned USCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors and was named to the SLIAC Third Team All-Conference Team after the 2016 season.  Junior Lida Landre (SR/Loomis, CA) received SLIAC Second Team honors this past season for the Tigers.

Coach Wagy's administrator duties included Assistant Athletic Director, Compliance Officer, and she was also instrumental in IW's partnership with the Southeast Iowa Special Olympics as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor.

"It has been a pleasure to work with BJ during her time at Iowa Wesleyan.  We are grateful for the dedication she has shown to her student-athletes over the past five years," stated Derek Zander.

"We look forward to building on the success of the volleyball program as a national search for a head coach will begin immediately."
