Greenville, Prinicipia Earn 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Status

NEW ORLEANS - Greenville College and Principia College both earned 2012 Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Principia's Casey Powell was also named to the 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

Greenville and Principia were two of 197 institutions representing 39 conferences to earn 2012 USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team status. Greenville posted a team GPA of 3.244, while Principia had a team GPA of 3.44.

The MIAC had the most squads on the list with 11, followed by the NESCAC, Centennial Conference and Middle Atlantic Conference with 10 each.

Powell was the lone student-athlete from the SLIAC to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater through the most recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships. Powell placed 17th at the NCAA DIII Midwest Regionals and went on to finish in the top 100 at the DIII Women's Cross Country National Championships.

A total of 201 student-athletes represent 104 institutions on the All-Academic Team. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Haverford led the way with six on the list. They were followed by six schools with five student-athletes a piece. All of the top 10 finishers from the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic honors. In addition, 19 of the national championships' top 25 finishers also earned the All-Academic acclaim, and six student-athletes reported a cumulative GPA of 4.0 through the Fall semester.
