Kuykendall Starts Year With A Win

The defending SLIAC Women's Cross Country Champion, Jessica Kuykendall, started the 2017 season off in much the same fashion as last year; with a first-place finish. Kuykendall took first-place at the Principia College North Farm Course Meet. Racing against a varied field that included a NCAA Division II school, and NAIA school, and a conference school Kuykendall finished nearly a full minute ahead of the next competitor in the race's field of 30.

Kuykendall finished the 4K in 14 minutes, 56.27 seconds, finishing almost a full minute in front of her nearest competitor. Madison Zack also finished in the top five for Westminster, with a fifth-place finish in 16:56.63. Althea Honan finished the first race of her college career in 17:29.96, finishing seventh. Rounding out the top five for Westminster was Charlotte Blair in 16th (17:45.08) and Taylor Howard in 21st (19:04.87). Kelsey Newland, Whitney Mitchhart, and Mollie Amsden also competed for Westminster finishing 24th, 29th, and 30th, respectively. As a team, Westminster finished second out of four teams.

On the men's side, Westminster fielded two runners. Joseph Labitska finished in 26th with a time of 21:57.51. Jack Pervinich finished 28th with a time of 22:06.59.

Westminster cross country competes next at Central Mathodist on Saturday, Sept. 9.
