Webster Announces Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2011

ST. LOUIS - Four former Gorlok greats make up the sophomore class of the Webster Athletics Hall of Fame. Halley Spann Barke, Mike Hutchison, Eric Stack, and Dan Thoman were named as inductees for 2011. They will be enshrined on February 5, at Grant Gymnasium, between games of a basketball double header.

Former players, coaches, and other individuals who made significant contributions to the program, are eligible for selection to the Webster University Athletic Hall of Fame. This year's class honors four standout former athletes who were solid students, and solid citizens, as well.

Halley Spann Barke (2002) led the women's basketball team to the NCAA III 'Sweet Sixteen" in 2002. A Player of the Year for the SLIAC for three straight years ('99-'00 to '01-'02), Barke also was a DIII News All-American and a SLIAC First-Team, All-Conference selection over the same period. Barke was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2000.

Her 546 points scored in 2000-01 is still the Webster all-time single season high as is the 182 free throws she made that year. The 21.8 points per game she scored in 2000-01 is the Webster single season high, and is the third highest average in SLIAC conference women's basketball history. On the Webster career list, Barke's 1529 points ranks second and her 463 free throws ranks first.

Barke was also selected as SLIAC First-Team, All-Conference in softball in 2002. She had a career .389 batting average and stole 58 bases in 62 attempts. The 58 career stolen bases ranks fifth in Webster history. Barke performed well in the classroom also, maintaining a 3.51 gpa. Barke resides in Cape Girardeau, MO, and works as a physician's assistant. She is married to former Gorlok men's basketball player, Brady Barke, and they recently welcomed a baby daughter, Mabrie Lynn.

Mike Hutchison (1990) was an NCAA All-Region selection in 1986 and 1987 in men's soccer. One of the first male, four-year Gorloks, Hutchison is still second on the Webster all-time high list in career goals (37) and points (94), and fourth in assists (20). He was inducted into the Fox High School Hall of Fame in 2006. As a freshman, he helped lead the team to a 14-9-1 record and a berth in the NLCAA tournament.

Hutchison is the women's soccer coach at Windsor High School in Imperial, and has been an assistant head coach for the Webster University women's soccer team since its start in 1999. In his twelve years with the team, it has won eight SLIAC championships and made eight NCAA appearances. He excelled off the field at Webster, maintaining a 3.5 gpa at Webster. Hutchison is a teacher at Windsor High School. He is married and resides in Arnold.

Eric Stack (1991) was a four-year basketball and baseball player for the Gorloks, receiving SLIAC First-Team All-Conference recognition for both sports in 1991, in his only year of eligibility (the SLIAC was formed in 1990). In basketball, Stack is still second on the Webster career list in 3-point FGs (180) and assists (376), and third in steals (150). In baseball he ranks fourth (37) in career steals, and tenth in batting average (.415) for a season.

While at Webster, Stack played tennis as well. He maintained a healthy 3.57 gpa at Webster while participating in multiple sports. Stack was a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar-Athlete for Sullivan High School (MO), where he played football and ran track, in addition to basketball, baseball, and tennis. Eric works at MasterCard International. He resides in Sullivan, MO with Lisa Cain and her three sons.

Dan Thoman (1991) was a four-year basketball player at Webster and is the all-time career leader in points scored (1607), rebounds (738), and steals (170). Nineteen years later, Thoman is 331 points and 120 rebounds higher than the next closest career total in both categories. Thoman also ranks sixth in assists, eighth in blocked shots, and ninth in 3-point baskets.

Like Stack, Thoman received SLIAC First Team All-Conference recognition in 1991, the only year he was eligible. His success extended to the classroom, where he maintained a 3.55 gpa. Thoman helped organize the Webster men's club volleyball team, which had success playing matches versus other university teams from all NCAA divisions. He coached high school girls basketball and volleyball at Ft. Zumwalt South HS, reaching the Missouri High School final four in volleyball in 1998. Thoman was a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar-Athlete at Winfield High School (MO).

After teaching for a number of years, Thoman moved into high school administration, serving as Assistant Principal at Maplewood HS, Principal at Winfield HS (MO), and currently Assistant Principal at Eureka HS. He is married, with three children, and resides in O'Fallon, MO.
