Westminster's Braden Notches Career Win 100

Head Coach Tracey Braden grabbed her 100th career win at Westminster with the win over Fontbonne University Tuesday evening. The Blue Jays defeated the Fontbonne Griffins 85-50, bringing their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to 3-3.

Coach Braden is the first women's basketball coach in Westminster's program history to reach 100 wins. Braden joined the program in 2007, jump-starting her collegiate coaching career.

A close start to Tuesday evening's game was halted when the Blue Jays hit a 9-0 run with 11:30 left in the first half. The Blue Jays blasted an 11-4 run to close out the first half with the 40-21 lead.

The second half started with three good three-pointers by sophomore Sadie Theroff (Jefferson City, Mo. /Jefferson City) and a jumper by senior Leigh Ann Lutz (California, Mo. /California). A fast break layup by Lutz with 13:28 left in the game gave the Blue Jays a 31 point lead, 58-27. The Blue Jays continued to push the lead, grabbing a 39 point lead with 5:34 left in the game. They ended the game with a 35 point win over Fontbonne, 85-50.

The Blue Jays shot 48.6 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from the three-point line. Lutz led the Blue Jays with 19 points, going 3-for-6 from the three-point line. She added three steals and five assists to the win. Freshman Krista Armontrout (Centralia, Mo. /Centralia) chipped in 12 points after going 6-for-9 from down low. Sophomore Jen Herndon (Salem, Mo. /Salem) and freshman Andrea Zalis (Rolla, Mo. /Rolla) grabbed 9 and 8 rebounds, respectively. Zalis had two blocks for the night also.
