Webster's Bunch Named D3 Hoops Midwest Coach of the Year
Chris Bunch, Webster University head men's basketball coach, was
named the D3 Hoops 2013-14 Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
Bunch becomes the first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference men's basketball coach to earn the honor.
Bunch led the Gorloks to the SLIAC Championship, an NCAA Tournament
berth, and a 20-8 record. Webster, picked fourth in the SLIAC
coaches preseason poll, finished second in the regular season to
preseason favorite Spalding University (KY), then upset the Golden
Eagles on their home court to take the championship, 55-51.
The Gorloks then drew a tough first round assignment in the NCAA
Championships, having to face the number one seeded Illinois
Wesleyan University on its home court in the Bloomington, IL
Regional. Webster battled the Titans throughout the contest,
falling 71-70 when Wesleyan hit two free throws with nine seconds
remaining in the game.
In 12 seasons at the helm for Webster, Bunch has compiled a 142-46
record in the SLIAC and 187-127 overall, with five first place
finishes, two NCAA appearances, and four SLIAC Coach of the Year
selections.
