Greenville's Ackerman Records 200th Coaching Win
GREENVILLE, Ill. -- With the most recent Panther volleyball
victory at Principia Saturday, head coach Tom Ackerman was credited
with his 200th career coaching win. In 12 years as head coach,
Ackerman has taken a team which accrued an average of 9.5 wins per
season over its previous six seasons and nearly doubled its average
number of victories per year with 17 wins a season in the last 11
years.
The past nine years have been particularly noteworthy for the
volleyball program as they have gone 162-90, producing three
straight league championships, four consecutive appearances in the
SLIAC tournament championship match, seven straight appearances in
the conference tournament, one SLIAC tournament championship, and
the program's first qualification for the NCAA national tournament
in 2010. The 2010 unit posted a program-best 18 consecutive wins
and was the first female team in school history to earn a berth in
the NCAA tournament.
Since 2002, Greenville College volleyball has obtained three
conference player of the year honors (Jessica Dothager twice and
Corinne Coon). GC has had the SLIAC newcomer of the year on three
occasions (Kaitlin Feyerabend, Tricia Gall, and Coon), and Kerry
Hammer has been the conference defensive player of the year. During
this same time span, Ackerman has received three SLIAC coach of the
year awards. The squad has produced 40 all-conference
recognitions.
"This win reminds me of all the incredible players I've had the honor of coaching and of the amazing coaches I have worked with over the years," said Ackerman. "I love this program, and I look forward to another 200 wins at GC."
The 2013 team has posted a record of 13-3 to this point in the season, including a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play, and is on target to host its third SLIAC volleyball tournament in the last four years.
