Fogerty, Johnson and Speer To Be Inducted Into SLIAC Hall of Fame

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and Commissioner Will Wolper have announced the Hall of Fame Class for 2014. This year's class includes two former standout student-athlete athletes, Fontbonne University's Brian Fogerty and Principia College's Christina Speer, as well as former Principia College Head Coach Seth Johnson.

Fogerty was a standout performer on the basketball court for Fontbonne from 2005-09. Fogerty is just one of three individuals to be named the Conference Player of the Year twice, earning the honor in 2008 and 2009 after leading the conference in scoring both seasons including a career best 19.8 points per game as a senior. Fogerty finished his career fourth in all-time points by a SLIAC men's basketball player with 1,756 career points and holds five school records. He earned First Team All-Conference honors three times in his career as well as garnering All-Tournament honors in 2008. In addition, Fogerty guided his team to three consecutive SLIAC Tournament titles, with three straight appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, and remain the only conference team to reach that accomplishment.

Speer, a former two-sport start at Principia College, made an impact on both the volleyball and basketball programs during her time from 2005-09. Speer is the first student-athlete to be selected to the SLIAC Hall of Fame by a unanimous vote. On the volleyball court Speer remains the only student-athlete to earn Conference Player of the Year three times (2006, 2007 and 2008). In addition Speer is just one of three players to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and is the only player to have been a First Team selection. In addition, Speer was named First Team All-Conference all four years as well as Newcomer of the Year. Speer led the nation in kills per set as a senior, averaging 4.86 per set, and finished her career with seven school records. Not to be outdone Speer shined on the basketball court as well where she is the conference leader in points scored by a women's basketball player with 1,688 career points. Speer was named to the women's basketball All-Conference team four times and holds five school records.

Johnson served as head coach of the Principia College men's soccer program for 18 years, 11 of which came as a member of the SLIAC. Johnson was named Conference Coach of the Year three times including twice by the SLIAC (1995 and 2001) and was named the NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year once. In 2001, Johnson led his team to a then SLIAC record 13 conference wins and became the first coach to lead a Principia team to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Johnson's teams were routinely ranked within the region and guided his team to SLIAC regular season titles in 1996 and 2001. During his coaching tenure, he had 65 players earn All-SLIAC honors and since joining the SLIAC another eight players named NSCAA All-Region.
