SLIAC Players of the Week - Jan. 27

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week for January 27. This week's winners are Verdis Lee Jr., from Westminster College, and Kelsey Shoemake, from Eureka College.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Verdis Lee Jr., Westminster College

Verdis Lee Jr. is this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Lee, a junior guard from Fulton, Mo., averaged nearly 30 points in three games last week, helping his team to a pair of wins. Lee tallied 24 points and six rebounds against Spalding to start the week. But he was just getting started. Lee had a hot hand in his next game, a win over Principia, when he poured in 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting. Lee wrapped up the week with 25 points in a win over Eureka, also recording seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks in the game. On the week Lee averaged 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 blocks per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Kelsey Shoemake, Eureka College

Kelsey Shoemake has been named this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Shoemake averaged a double-double last week in two games. She started a week with a double-double, recording 11 points and 13 rebounds with three steals and two blocks in a win over Blackburn. Shoemake then helped lead her team to a win over Westminster. Shoemake scored a game high 25 points, on 12-of-17 shooting, while grabbing nine rebounds and adding two steals and three blocks. On the week she averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocks. This is the third time this season she has earned weekly honors.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

  • Kenny Sydness, Principia College (Men's Basketball) Sydness averaged 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games last week. He had back to back 20-point games including a 27 point effort against Greenville.
