SLIAC Players of the Week - September 30

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the Players of the Week for September 30th. The following student-athletes earned this week's honors Jackson Cantrell, Corinne Coon, Sarah Litwiller, Wylie Mangelsdorf, Kristin Mongtomery, Rachel Perea, Raul Romero and Jamie Schollenbruch.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Wylie Mangelsdorf (Principia College)
Mangelsdorf, a senior from Palmer, Alas., ran a blistering pace in the 8K meet at Augustana College. He finished the race with a time of 24:57, with a 5:02 pace, and finished in 2nd place in the meet that featured 491 runners. Mangelsdorf was neck and neck with the race winner through the first two splits and finished just nine-seconds behind the winner. This marks the second time this season Mangelsdorf has taken home the weekly honor.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Sarah Litwiller (Principia College)
Litwiller, a junior from Concord, Calif., finished her 6K race at Augustana with a time of 22:41, placing 9th at the meet. Litwiller ran a pace of 6:06 and just under one minute behind the race winner. This marks the second time this season Litwiller has earned the weekly honors.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Jackson Cantrell (Spalding University)
Cantrell, a freshman forward from Crestwood, Ky., recorded three goals in two games last week. Cantrell scored all three of Spalding's goals in a 3-2 double overtime win over regionally ranked Centre. All three of his goals came after halftime and each one gave his team the lead including the game winner just two minutes into the second overtime period.

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Raul Romero (Westminster College)
Romero, a freshman goalkeeper from Celaya, Mexico, helped the Blue Jays to a 1-0 overtime win in their only contest on the week. Romero recorded seven saves in the shutout, holding their opponent scoreless through 93 minutes until his team was able to notch the game-winning goal.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Kristin Montgomery (Webster University)
Montgomery, a junior forward, tallied one goal and two assists on the week. She played a hand in three of her team's five goals in a 5-0 win over Eureka; finishing with one goal, the game-winner, and two assists.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Rachel Perea (Principia College)
Perea, a freshman defender from Long Island, N.Y., helped lead Principia to a 5-0 shutout win over conference foe Westminster. Perea was the leader of a defense that allowed just six shots including only one on goal while consistantly winning head balls and breaking up midfield passes.

VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Corinne Coon (Greenville College)
Coon, a senior outside hitter from Warsaw, Ind., was the go to player on the week for Greenville averaging 5.17 kills per set in her team's two wins. Coon finished with 15 kills in a win over Fontbonne and followed with a 16 kill performance against Principia. She finished the week with 31 kills in 76 attempts over six sets of action. This marks the third time this season and second consecutive week Coon has taken home the weekly award.

VOLLEYBALL - DEFENSIVE
Jamie Schollenbruch (Greenville College)
Schollenbruch, a sophomore libero from Decatur, Ill., paced the Greenville defense on the week averaging 6.83 digs per set in her team's two wins. Schollenbruch finished with 13 digs in a 3-0 win over Fontbonne and followed with a 28 dig outing in a 3-0 win over Principia. This is the second time this season Schollenbruch has earned the weekly honor.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

Ethan Jeffries, Webster University (Cross Country) Jeffries set a school record with a time of 25:21 in a 8K race at the Rhodes Invitational. His time was more than a minute faster than his previous school record.
Sam Kersting, Webster University (Volleyball) Kersting finished with 12 kills in her only match on the week, hitting 44-percent on 12 of 25 attempts with just one error.
Amanda Kiso, Westminster College (Volleyball) Kiso finished the week hitting .486 with 19 kills on just 35 attempts while also finishing with 12 total blocks.
Sammy Jo Petefish, MacMurray College (Volleyball) Petefish recorded double digit digs in all four of her matches on the week in addition to holding a serve reception percentage of 96% including a 29 for 29 performance against Fontbonne.
