SLIAC Players of the Week - Oct. 14th
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the Players of the Week for October 14th. The following student-athletes earned this week's honors Allison Ferguson, Connor Hollrah, Haile Jemane, Sam Kersting, Katie O'Toole, Shane Rogers, Dee Dee Sliter and Alyssa Tonner.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Haile Jemane (Spalding University) Jemane, a senior from
Louisville, Ky., headed to the sun this past weekend, competing in
the Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Fla. With the warm air
Jemane finished the 8K race in a time of 25:55, placing 15th
individually. Competing against 96 runners from across all levels
Jemane finished 9th amongst non-division I runners, first among D
III runners, and was just 50 seconds off the winning time.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Alyssa Tonner (Fontbonne University) Tonner, a senior from St.
Louis, Mo., competed in the 6K Illinois College Invitational this
past weekend. Tonner finished in a time of 23:08, placing 3rd
individually in a field of 61 runners. Tonner worked her way
through the pack from sixth place to the third spot late in the
race. Her time set a new personal record and broke the school
record by 31 seconds.
MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Connor Hollrah (Westminster College) Hallrah, a junior from
Columbia, Mo., helped jump start his team to a conference win over
MacMurray last weekend. Hollrah helped start his team's scoring by
assisting on the game's first goal just three minutes into action.
Hollrah followed with a goal of his own en route to recording a hat
trick in the first-half of the contest. He went on to record three
goals and one assist for seven total points in the 8-0 win.
MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Shane Rogers (Blackburn) Rogers, a junior from Granite City, Ill.,
single handedly kept Blackburn in the game in a 2-0 loss against
first-place Webster. Rogers stopped 21 of 23 shots he faced in the
contest including several diving stops. Rogers blanked the Gorloks
in the first half, stopping all eight shots, before the Gorloks
were able to find the back of the net in the second half. Earlier
in the week Rogers recorded a shutout in a 3-0 win over Robert
Morris-Springfield, stopping a pair of shots in the win.
WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Dee Dee Sliter (Spalding University) Sliter, a freshman from
Louisville, Ky., tallied a pair of goals in helping Spalding to a
3-2 win over Principia and handing Principia their first conference
loss of the season. Sliter gave Spalding their first lead of the
game with a goal at the 64 minute mark. Principia tied the game up
minutes later but Sliter was not done. Sliter scored her second
goal of the game just over one minute later, on a penalty kick, to
give Spalding the lead for good.
WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Allison Ferguson (Webster University) Ferguson, a freshman from
Highland, Ill., helped Webster to a conference win over Blackburn.
Ferguson and the Gorloks shut down Blackburn, which entered the
game as the conference's top scoring team, limiting them to no
goals and just two shots. Ferguson also added two goals of her own
as she jumped up on the offensive attack from her defensive
position.
VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Sam Kersting (Webster University) Kersting, a junior from St.
Louis, Mo., provided Webster with a consistent attack in going 5-0
on the week. Kersting averaged 3.33 kills per set, finishing the
week with 50 kills and just 12 errors in 103 attempts. She recorded
17 kills in a five set win over Augustana and added 16 kills
against D-II member Maryville. She also added 26 total blocks on
the week and averaged 4.5 points per set.
VOLLEYBALL - DEFENSIVE
Katie O'Toole (Webster University) O'Toole, a freshman from St.
Louis, Mo., had an impressive week highligted by a record setting
performance in a win over Augustana. O'Toole set a school record
with 50 digs in the win, also placing her in the top 25 in NCAA
Division III history for digs in a match. O'Toole recorded double
digits in all five of her matches this week, averaging 6.41 digs
per set with 109 digs in 17 sets.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
- Corinne Coon, Greenville College (Volleyball) Coon averaged 4.6 kills per set with a 20 kill outing against Lincoln Christian. She finished the week with 46 kills and averaged 5.1 points per set.
- Ethan Jeffries, Webster University (Men's Cross Country) Jeffries broke his own school record with a time of 25:13 in the 8K race while becoming the first Gorlok to record two meet wins in a career.
- Tess Rountree, Principia College (Volleyball) Rountree averaged 5 digs per set this week including a 25 dig performance against Fontbonne while adding seven total blocks on the week.
