SLIAC Players of the Week - Dec. 9

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week for December 2. This week's winners are Kevin Miller from Webster University and Rachel Perea from Principia College.

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Kevin Miller, Webster University

Miller, a sophomore center from Belleville, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Miller averaged 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this week including a double-double performance against Greenville College. Miller netted 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in his team's 77-63 win over Greenville, shooting 8-of-11 from the field while adding two steals. Miller followed that game with a 13 point, seven rebound effort in a win over Fontbonne and closed out the week with a 14 point, five rebound game against Missouri S&T. On the week Miller shot 65.5 percent from the floor and added five total blocks.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Rachel Perea, Principia College

Perea, a freshman forward from Long Island, N.Y., was named this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping her team to a pair of wins. Perea recorded a double-double in all three of her team's games on the week, averaging 16.3 points and 12 rebounds per game. Perea's highlight performance came in a 61-51 win over MacMurray College in which she netted 20 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and picking up eight steals. Perea added a 14 point and 12 rebound effort in a win over Stephens and followed with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Spalding. Perea played all 40 minutes in each of the three games and added eight assists, 14 steals and three blocks on the week.

SPECIAL MENTION

  • Emily Gundy, Greenville College (Women's Basketball)- Gundy led her team to a victory over Blackburn with a 22 point, eight rebound, six assist and four steal performance.
  • Jessica Guy, Spalding University (Women's Basketball)- Guy recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Principia while going 9-of-12 from the floor.
  • Joe James, Westminster College (Men's Basketball)- James tallied 28 points in a win over Simpson, going an impressive 17-of-18 from the free-throw line and setting a new school record for free-throws in a game. 
  • Courtney Pursley, Webster University (Women's Basketball)- Pursley helped lead her team to a pair of wins on the week, averaging 18 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game; including a 23 point game against Fontbonne.
