Winter Storm Leads to Postponed Games (January 7, 2014)
The winter storm that moved through the Midwest early this week lead to the postponement of Tuesday's scheduled basketball games. The games will be made up at a later date and process of determining the new scheduled dates are currently under way.

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's basketball team returned from break with a game against Illinois College. Despite falling 91-64, Blackburn did not take long to get their shots going as they knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game. Combined the two teams hit 26 three-pointers in the game.

The Eureka Women's Basketball team will put their undefeated conference record on the line this week when they hit the road against Spalding on Thursday, Jan. 9. Eureka is currently 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the SLIAC while Spalding is 2-7 overall and 2-1 in the SLIAC.

The Fontbonne University men's basketball team placed four players in double figures in scoring in their contest against Spalding. Leading the way was Darius Rucker with 15 points while Richard Dorhauer and Bryan DeGeare each added 13 points and Jared Greenlee chipped in with 11 points.

Greenville's Alex Mumphard quickly got back into the game form in the Panthers return from break against Loras. Mumphard led all scorers in the game with 24 points, going 10-of-17 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Junior guard Whitney Godden was the SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week this week after helping her team to a 86-81 win over Buena Vista. Godden scored a team high 23 points while adding three rebounds and two assists.
The MacMurray men's basketball team puts their undefeated conference record on the line with two SLIAC games this week. The Highlanders, 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the SLIAC, will first take on Blackburn on Thursday and then head out on the road to face Spalding on Saturday. Blackburn is 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the SLIAC while Spalding is 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Principia guard Kenny Sydness currently leads the SLIAC in scoring at 21.2 points per game. In addition Syndess is second in the conference in total assists and is just one of three players to rank in the top five of the conference in both scoring and assists.

Spalding senior forward William Barber was named the SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after helping led the Golden Eagles to a 68-66 win over Fontbonne. Down 15 points with under five-minutes remaining Barber sparked his team to a 16-0 run by converting a three-point play. He then knocked down the game winning shot with 5.4 seconds left, finishing the game with 12 points.

Webster women's basketball forward Courtney Pursley is just one of two players in the SLIAC to rank in the top five of both scoring and rebounding. Pursley is currently averaging 15.8 points and 11.3 rebounds per game ranking her 4th and 1st respectively.
The Westminster men's and women's basketball teams are on the road this week for a pair of SLIAC games. Westminster will head out and face Webster on Thursday and then travel to Greenville for another conference double header on Saturday.
