Iowa Wesleyan Names Van Nostrand Head Coach (April 1, 2014)

Fontbonne Names Hall Head Coach (April 1, 2014)

AROUND THE SLIAC

 Blackburn took one game of a tightly played double header against Carroll (Wis.) winning game one 7-5 but falling 7-6 in 19 innings in game two. In the win the Beavers knocked out nine hits with Franklin Bush, Cody Flowers and Robert Smith all adding two hits.

 Eureka notched their first win of the 2014 season last week with a 7-5 victory over Spalding. The Red Devils used a three run first inning and three runs in the eighth inning to secure the win. Josiah Rose and Trevor Teal each went 4-for-5 in the game with Teal adding three runs batted in. Stephen Davis picked up the win going two innings and allowing no runs and just one hit while striking out three.

   The Fontbonne softball team cracked the NFCA Top 25 poll this week and are currently ranked #24 in Division III. The Griffins extended their conference unbeaten streak earlier this week to 32 games. The Griffins are 18-4 overall this season and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.

  The Greenville baseball team took two of three games in a series against Westminster last weekend. The Panthers are 8-9 overall and 5-2 in the SLIAC. The Panthers are set to face Fontbonne in a three game series this weekend with one game (Friday) in Greenville and a double header in St. Louis on Saturday.
 Jacob Ayers set personal bests in both the 800-meter race and 1500-meter race as he competed in the Washington University Invitational. Ayers finished the 800-meter race with a time of 2:03.55 and the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:19.94.
MacMurray pitcher Anthony Willeford guided his team to a win over Iowa Wesleyan last week. Willeford worked eight innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out 11. MacMurray is currently 8-10 overall this season and 4-5 in the SLIAC.
The Principia pitching duo of Tyler Nichoson and Hunter Mehring combined for a no-hitter in a 10 win over Illinois Colleg. Nichoson started the game and went three innings, allowing just one walk while striking out four. Mehring pitched the final four innings and allowed one walk with four strikeouts.

  Spalding pitcher Javier Guerra had a memorable first collegiate start, throwing a no-hitter in a win over Eureka. Guerra went seven innings, walking just one batter while striking out 11. For his efforts Guerra was named the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week.

  The Webster baseball team moved up two spots to #4 in the latest D3baseball.com poll. The Gorloks began the week with a 12-3 overall record and received 496 total points in the poll. They are scheduled to face Iowa Wesleyan in a three game series this weekend in Iowa.
Blue Jay pitcher Deion Hughes was impressive in a complete game shutout win over Greenville. Hughes worked seven innings of two hit ball while striking out 11. Westminster is currently 9-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
