AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn's men's soccer team is on a roll as of late, winning four of their last five games including their 2013 conference opener with a 2-1 win over MacMurray. The Beavers now have five wins this season, just two behind last year's total.

The Red Devils Kelli Dunne put together a solid all-around performance against Lincoln Christian last week. Dunne finished the match with 11 kills and 20 digs, marking her third consecutive double double.

The Fontbonne women's soccer team extended their winning streak to three games with wins over Oakland City and Iowa Wesleyan. Fontbonne's unbeaten streak is currently at four games and they hold the longest current winning streak in the conference in women's soccer.

The Greenville soccer programs each picked up wins in their SLIAC conference openers last weekend. The men's team won a 2-1 overtime thriller against Spalding while the Lady Panthers won by the same 2-1 score. It marked the second wins of the season for both teams.
The Iowa Wesleyan golf team placed second in the MacMurray Invitational last week. The Tigers finished their round with a team score of 307 and were led by Blake Mitchell and Trent Hoekstra who each shot a 75 to tie for 5th place overall.
MacMurray announced the hiring of Abby Lowe to the women's basketball coaching staff. Lowe, a 2010 graduate of MacMurray, was a SLIAC First Team All-Conference performer in 2009.
Principia swept this week's Cross Country Players of the Week honors with Wylie Mangelsdorf and Sarah Litwiller taking the honors. Mangelsdorf ran a time of 24:57 in his 8K race and placed 2nd overall while Litwiller finished her 6K race with a time of 22:41 and finished 9th overall.
Jackson Cantrell was a one man machine in helping his team to a 3-2 overtime win over Centre last week. Cantrell netted all three goals in the game for Spalding including the game winner in double overtime. For his efforts he earned Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Jessica Davis of the women's soccer team etched her name in the Webster record books last week. Davis is now in third place on the school's career saves list and is third all-time in career victories.
The Westminster men's soccer team started conference play the right way with a 1-0 win over Principia last week. The Blue Jays were led by goalkeeper Raul Romero who recorded his first collegiate shutout while making seven saves. Westminster has now won two of their last three games.

KEEP UP WITH THE SLIAC

Be sure to keep up with the SLIAC using various social media tools. You can follow us on Twitter (@sliac) HERE or Facebook (St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) HERE

Be sure to participate in our Social Media fun each week with Trivia Tuesday, Throwback Thursday and Feature Friday.

Each Tuesday on Twitter we will ask a SLIAC trivia question where the first person to respond with correct answer wins SLIAC gear! Last week's question was can you name the two current Athletic Director's in the SLIAC that were former SLIAC student-athletes? The answer was Fontbonne's Maria Eftink and Blackburn's Angie Morenz. Congrats to our winner Vinnie Birk. He is owner of a new SLIAC hat!

On Thursday's you can reminisce by looking at old photographs when we remember prior SLIAC Student-Athletes.

Friday's are Feature Friday's where we will get to know our current SLIAC Student-Athletes through a series of video interviews. This past week's Feature Friday video was a Day in the Life of Alexis Richie (Blackburn College) Check it out HERE
