AROUND THE SLIAC

For the second consecutive week Blackburn women's basketball player Ciara Morgan was named the SLIAC Player of the Week. Morgan poured in 24 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in a 112-89 loss to the University of Dubuque. Morgan added seven assists and four steals in the game. Her 22 rebounds are the 7th most in a game in DIII this season.

Senior guard Caty Eeten became the school's career scoring leader with a 23 point game in a 97-76 win over Knox last weekend. Eeten now has 1,485 points, breaking the previous mark set by Jessica Reardon (2001-05). She already holds program records for scoring average, free throws made and attempted and is within striking distance on field goals made.

Fontbonne's Nicole Joerger has been on fire from the outside early this season, leading the conference in three-point shooting at 62.5 percent. She has knocked down 5-of-8 attempts and is averaging 11.0 points per game this season.

The Greenville men's basketball team stepped up a few levels and took on Division I Western Illinois last week, falling to the Leathernecks 76-49. Greenville trailed by just 10 points at halftime but were unable to stay with Western Illinois in the second-half. Greenville was led by Tim Daniel with nine points and seven rebounds.
Iowa Wesleyan will be hosting Run Recruits, a recruiting fair for high school cross country/track & field athletes and football players. The event will be on Saturday, December 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is open to high school seniors. The event is an opportunity for college coaches to connect with aspiring student-athletes looking for a college that suits their needs academically and athletically.
The MacMurray men's basketball team currently sits atop the SLIAC standings at 3-1. The Highlanders have won two straight games and open up conference play this week against Eureka and Principia. They are also the conference's top scoring team at 86.8 points per game.
The Principia men's basketball team snapped their 57 game losing streak with an impressive 83-74 win over visiting Millikin University. Principia took the lead with four and a half minutes remaining in the game on a three-pointer and held on for the win. They were led by Damon Wilqus' 25 points while Kenny Sydness added 20 points.

The Spalding men's basketball team, picked first in the SLIAC preseason poll, has gotten off to a slow start this season. The Golden Eagles notched their first win of the season in their last outing, a 76-66 win over Anderson, and will look to carry that momentum into this week as they open up conference play against Principia and Iowa Wesleyan.

The Webster men's basketball team is off to a 2-2 start this season and currently sit in third place in the SLIAC. The Gorloks are the only team in the conference with two players in the top ten in scoring this season. Ahmad Smith leads the team at 15.5 points per game while Kevin Miller is back with the team after a year absence and averaging 14.8 points per game.
Westminster senior Leigh Ann Lutz has been named to the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team. She is just one of 84 student-athletes to be named for excelling not only on and off the court but for their significant contributions to their community through volunteerism and civic service.
