Help the SLIAC "Can" Hunger

For the second consecutive year the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and its school members will hold a series of canned food drives to help give back to their local communities. The SLIAC and members of each school's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) came up with the idea of an annual canned drive competition as a way to promote citizenship among its student-athletes and for fans to help give back to their communities.

The competition will run the entire 2014-15 school year with three "seasonal" drives. The first drive will be held for fall sports and runs from the start of the school to fall championship weekend on November 8th. The winter drive will run from November 15th until the championship weekend of February 28th while the spring drive will begin March 1st and conclude during the championship weekend of May 9th. The school that collects the most canned goods during each drive earn recognition by the SLIAC with the year's overall leader receiving a traveling trophy. Cash donations will also be accepted with every $1 counting as two cans of food.

Last year MacMurray College won the overall competition by collecting 1,076 canned food items during the school year. Overall the SLIAC and it's members collected 4,237 cans for local food shelters.

You can join the canned drive and give back by bringing a canned food item with you to any game or contest at your local SLIAC school.
