MacMurray First In SLIAC Fall Canned Food Drive Competition

MacMurray First In SLIAC Fall Canned Food Drive Competition

The numbers are in for the fall portion of the annual SLIAC Canned Food Drive Competition and MacMurray College led all conference members with over 1,000 canned food items collected.

The competition is divided into three collection periods; the fall season, the winter season, and the spring season. During the fall period this year MacMurray College collected over 1,000 canned food items, setting a new conference member high. The conference as a whole collected over 2,000 items during the fall. Westminster and Greenville finished second and third during the fall competition, collecting 370 and 355 cans respectively.

This marks the second year the SLIAC and members of the conference's Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) agreed to a conference wide community service competition. The goal is to give back to the community and further develop citizenship among its student-athletes. Each institution and their SAAC committee will hold canned food drives throughout the year, with the collected donations going to a local food pantry. Collection periods end during the last weekend of the regular season for the respective sports. Cash donations are also accepted with every dollar donated counting as two canned food items.
