AROUND THE SLIAC
The Blackburn golf team was in action this week, competing in the MacMurray College Spring Invitational. The Beavers placed fifth in the field of six teams, shooting a one day score of 333. Beaver Matt Liddell placed sixth in the event with a 75. |
Eureka baseball took two of three games last weekend in a series against Iowa Wesleyan. The Red Devils won game one 6-5 and closed out the series with a 13-5 win. After falling behind 4-0 in game one the Red Devils plated two runs in the seventh and four in the eighth. Trevor Froehling led the way going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in while Cody Behrens picked up the win. The Red Devils pounded out 14 hits in the final game of the series with Nick Passini going 3-for-5 with three RBI. |
The Griffins softball team is hitting their stride, having won seven straight games. They are coming off a double header sweep of Iowa Wesleyan last week to improve to 8-0 in SLIAC play. The Griffins are scheduled to face Westminster on Friday and Eureka on Saturday this week. |
Tiffany Samsoe, a sophomore on the Greenville softball team, is pursuing the SLIAC Triple Crown this season. Samsoe is leading the conference in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in this year. She is currently hitting .545 with five home runs and 24 runs batted in. In addition Samsoe has a .592 on base percentage and an .879 slugging percentage. |

The MacMurray golf team had a strong showing in their own event, the MacMurray Spring Invitational, this week. The Highlanders tied for 3rd with a 309 and placed two players in the top ten individually. Max Reiske and Cory Cooper tied for sixth with a 75, just three shots over par. Tarryn Link just missed the top ten with a 77, tying for 11th. |
The Principia women's tennis team moved to 3-0 on the year with a 9-0 blanking of Westminster College on Tuesday. The Panthers' Hanne Anderson moved to 11-4 in singles action this season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top spot. Kelly Adams, this week's SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, also notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles. |

The Webster baseball team had an impressive series sweep of Westminster last weekend, winning 10-0, 5-4, and 5-0. The sweep moved Webster past Westminster to second place in the SLIAC standings in the West Division. Gorlok pitcher Josh Fleming earned SLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going nine innings and striking out 14 in game three of the series. |
The Blue Jay track and field team had an impressive performance at the CMU Invitational. The Blue Jays took home three of four SLIAC weekly honors for their efforts. Logan Shoemaker was named Men's Field Player of the Week after placing third in the shot put. Anna Houston was named Women's Field Player of the Week after setting three school records and Brier Skogsberg was named Women's Track Player of the Week after a third place finish in the 5000 meter race. |
