AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's soccer team had a two game winning streak snapped this week as they were edged out 1-0 by Mount St. Joseph. The Beavers had put together back to back wins over Rockford and Eureka, pushing their season win total to three games.

Eureka volleyball head coach Jennifer Brown picked up her first win for the Red Devils with a 3-1 win over Iowa Wesleyan. The Red Devils took the match 25-27, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-19. Brown is in her first year as coach of the Red Devils program, spending the previous two years as a graduate assistant coach at Western Michigan University.

Fontbonne sophomore Kersten McDonough was named the SLIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Griffins attack in three conference matches. McDonough averaged 5.23 kills per set while hitting .282 on the week. Against Westminster she recorded a career high 31 kills.

The Greenville men's soccer team swept the conference awards this week with Jordan York earning Offensive Player of the Week honors and Thomas Crown taking Defensive Player of the Week honors. York netted his team's only goals on the week including a game winner against Milsaps. Crown kept the Panthers in the game against #17 Wheaton, stopping 10 of 12 shots.
Iowa Wesleyan announced a new graphic identity this month, releasing two primary logos. The goal of the project was to improve the College's athletic teams with a modern, fresh look that provided better flexibility for use in a variety of media platforms. Apparel with the new logos will be available at the school's bookstore on November 1.
The MacMurray College athletic department recently signed a one-year exclusive agreement with Little Caesar's Pizza of Jacksonville. The sponsorship includes signage and a social media marketing campaign and designates Little Caesar's as the official pizza of Highlander athletics.
Senior hitter Tess Rountree currently ranks first in NCAA Division III in kills per set (5.69) and second in total kills (273). Her teammate Savanna Sprague is also making noise nationally ranking just outside the top 100 in both assists per set (7.96) and total assists (114).

The Golden Eagles men's golf team took home team and individual titles this past weekend in the Benedictine University Fall Invite. Spalding topped 15 other teams with a combined score of 296, edging out second-place Elmhurst by six strokes. Jonathon Gandia won the individual title with a 2 under par 70.

The Webster volleyball team moved above .500 this season with a pair of wins last week. The Gorloks picked up back to back sweeps over Eureka and Principia and now stand at 7-6 overall this season and 3-1 in conference play.
The Westminster volleyball team extended their winning streak to six matches and remained unbeaten in conference play with two more wins last weekend. The Blue Jays topped Iowa Wesleyan and Fontbonne last Saturday. They are currently 6-6 overall and 4-0 in the SLIAC.
