AROUND THE SLIAC
The Blackburn men's soccer offense came alive last week in a pair
of conference wins. The Beavers recorded double digit goals in back
to back games as they defeated Eureka 11-0 and Iowa Wesleyan 14-0.
The double digit goal performance marked the first time the Beavers
reached that mark since the 2012 season against Robert
Morris-Springfield. |

Greenville junior Kieley Leach was named the SLIAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player of the Week after leading her team to their first
two wins of the 2014 season. Leach recorded a hat-trick in each of
her team's games, tallying the goals early on to propel her team to
the victories. Leach finished the week with six goals and two
assists in two games. |
The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team picked up back to back wins last
week as they defeated Blackburn and AIB. Against AIB the Tigers
were led by Dakota Flesner, who finished with 13 kills and 24 digs.
Kali Unruh added 10 kills while Cierra Howard and Lindsey Johnson
combined for 35 assists. |
MacMurray College will participate in their third annual "Set,
Serve, and Rally For A Cure" as they face Illinois College in a
crosstown battle. Admission is free and all proceeds go to
Jacksonville's Mia Ware Foundation. The event has raised more than
$5,000 over the last two events and will support local treatment,
research, and education about breast cancer. |
The Principia men's soccer team picked up a 4-2 win over Blackburn
to move above .500 in conference play this season. The Panthers'
Nate Waters recorded a hat trick in the win. Principia is now
5-10-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the SLIAC. |

The Webster volleyball team is playing their best of the season
right now, tied for the longest active winning streak in the
conference with eight. The Gorloks topped Spalding, MacMurray, and
Blackburn all last weekend. Webster is currently in second place in
the SLIAC with a 13-2 record and are 17-8 overall. |
The Blue Jays women's soccer team has won three straight games and
are sitting in third place in the SLIAC standings with a 4-0-1
record. Westminster topped Eureka 6-0 and notched wins over Iowa
Wesleyan and Spalding with identical 3-0 scores. |
The Eureka volleyball team recently took time away from the court
to volunteer at the Peoria Rescue Ministry. The Red Devils helped
prepare items at the thrift store as give-aways for the visitors.
Freshman Meagan Hanney said, "It was a great way to help others
while having fun and spending time with my teammates off the
court."
The Fontbonne women's soccer team picked up their 13th win of the
season last week with a win over Eureka. Fontbonne's 13 wins are
the second most in program history and they have now won five
consecutive games. The Griffins remain undefeated in the SLIAC with
a perfect 5-0 record.
The Spalding men's soccer team has picked up their play as of
late, going 2-0-1 in their last three games. The Golden Eagles
defeated MacMurray and Eureka and came from behind to tie
Westminster 2-2. Spalding's Joey Lesher scored with just one-minute
remaining in regulation against Westminster to help secure the
