AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn women's soccer team edged out MacMurray in overtime for a 2-1 win this week, recording their third conference victory of the season. Blackburn got on the board first when Meghan Sykora scored in the first-half. Sykora then set up Kristin Naples game winning goal seven-minutes into the first overtime frame.

The Eureka soccer teams will close out the 2014 season this week with one road game and one home game. The Red Devils head to Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday for a SLIAC double header. They will close out the season with a home contest on Saturday against Greenville.

The Fontbonne women's soccer team will face Webster on Saturday with first place and the SLIAC regular season title on the line. Fontbonne is currently 7-0-1 after tying Westminster 1-1 on Tuesday night. The Griffins are currently 15-2-2 overall, tying the program record for wins in a season.

The Panther volleyball team notched their 20th win of the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of Blackburn. This marks the fifth consecutive year the Panthers have reached the 20 win plateau. The are currently 20-7 overall and in first place in the SLIAC with a 14-1 record.
The Iowa Wesleyan soccer teams will close out their 2014 season with a pair of home SLIAC double headers. The Tigers will play host to Eureka on Wednesday afternoon and then close the books on the season on Saturday when they welcome Principia College.
The MacMurray men's soccer team picked up their third straight win with a 3-2 victory over Blackburn this week. The wins were the Highlanders first conference wins of the 2014 season and put their SLIAC record at 3-5. Zac Bozarth continued his recent scoring streak when he added two goals in his teams win over Blackburn, giving him a goal in each of his last three games.
The Principia volleyball team picked up their fifth consecutive win with a 3-2 victory over Fontbonne. Of the five wins, four have come on the road. Tess Rountree led the way against Fontbonne with 19 kills while Jessica Bushong and Lily Richards added 13 kills. Summer Switzer finished with 20 digs while Savanna Sprague added 42 assists.

The Spalding volleyball team has made a late push for the SLIAC Tournament having won their last four matches and nine of their last ten. The Golden Eagles are 11-5 in the SLIAC and in fourth place in the standings. They close out the regular season against Greenville and Principia on Saturday.

The Webster men's soccer team is the lone undefeated team remaining in the SLIAC. A 1-0 win over Greenville put the Gorloks conference record at 7-0-1, securing at least a share of the SLIAC regular season title and clinching the top spot and hosting rights to the SLIAC Tournament.
The Westminster men's soccer team is hoping for deja vu. A late push last year propelled the Blue Jays on a deep post-season run. This year the Blue Jays are 6-3-1 in their last ten games and have two straight after a 2-0 victory over Fontbonne on Tuesday that pushed them into second place in the SLIAC standings.
